130 km to Everest Base for Alzheimer’s Patients

130 km Everest Base Camp Trek for caregivers, families, and Alzheimer’s patients.

From March 14 - 27, 2022, Victor Portugues will climb Base Camp Mount Everest honoring Alzheimer patients' caregivers and families. Victor, born and raised in Puerto Rico, is a local business owner of VOP Consulting & Brokerage Inc, and was a consultant for over 10 years for Heineken specializing in Capability Building. Married to Michelle, they have one daughter, Gaby. Both Michelle and Gaby have lovingly supported Victor's committment to De Frente al Alzheimer, Inc. as an active volunteer and donor, supporting every fundraising since 2015.

The emotional and economic challenges that caregivers and families face while taking care of their loved ones are stressful. The coronavirus pandemic has increased the uncertainty and significant risk faced by Alzheimer’s patients and their Caregivers. Also, mental health problems are a prominent issue in the general community, a risk for developing Alzheimer’s disease.

De Frente al Alzheimer Inc. is a nonprofit organization established in 2015 by Teresa Seda. As a caregiver to her Mom, she experienced the emotional and financial struggles Alzheimer's disease brings to a family. Families with Alzheimer’s patients incur more than $3,000 monthly expenses in medicines, medical appointments, nurses, special food, caregivers, and medical equipment, among other necessities. Thanks to the generosity of our donors and people like Victor Portugues, DFAZ has impacted more than 450 families in Puerto Rico, disbursing more than $450,000.00.
