Spring Woods Debate Fund

I am writing to you because I have nowhere else to turn. I teach speech/debate at Spring Woods High School in Spring Branch ISD. My debate team is on free-reduced lunch, our entire budget was cut to zero and we are only allowed 3 fund raisers per year to raise money for debate tournament costs. Despite all odds, my program is the largest and most successful in Spring Branch ISD. For the past three years, we have had the most finalists (in SBISD) at the Texas Forensic Association’s State tournament (TFA), The University Interscholastic League (UIL) State, and the National Tournament of the National Speech and Debate Association and debate tournaments across the country. This year, we were the only school in Spring Branch ISD to qualify the most students for the TFA’s State Tournament with 34 qualified students and are ranked 3 in the state for obtaining the most state qualifications. Spring Woods has been ranked one of the Top Ten Schools in the Texas for the past 3 years. Spring Woods is the only school in the district to qualify students for this tournament as well. In June, Spring Woods was the only school to have finalists at the national tournament of the National Speech and Debate Association and receive the School of Honor Award which ranks us as one of the Top 40 schools in the nation.
