Who We Are
The 100 Smiles Project responds to real need in impoverished coastal communities in Central America along with providing a touch of love and care to the children who live at orphanages within these communities.
What We're Doing
We will be running our 3rd Annual 100 Smiles Project Mobile Dental Clinic as well as our first ever Computer Camp for the kids at Remar Orphanage. We will have a total of 10 volunteers on the trip.
The orphanages have limited access to treatment and computers, which is why we are running these initiative during this time of the year. A child with a healthy mouth is much more likely to have a healthy life. And a well educated child is more likely to succeed once they leave the orphanage.
*Note that all of 100 Smiles Project organizers and volunteers travel, accommodation, transportation fees and time are covered under my own expenses.
What We Need
We need a total of $4,000 USD. This price includes the mobile clinic rental and materials needed to do basic treatment. $500/day plus the price of gas, which is $600. We'll also need to purchase or source donated laptops and equipment ($1,600) so that we can set-up a computer lab where the kids can have access to after the Computer Camp.
Total total cost of the clinic rental (4 days): $2,000 USD
Estimate cost for gas (4 days): $400 USD
Computer Camp Equipment: $1,600 USD
The Children
As human beings we need certain things to survive.. food, water, shelter, even education, but to THRiVE, what we need is LOVE. There are 75 children who currently live at the Remar Orphanage and each one has a story that would break your heart to hear BUT children are resilient and they will flourish with just knowing that they are supported, loved and encouraged! While helping with the bakery build we will also be spending time playing, teaching, nurturing and showing these children love and doing so will help build trust, positive attitudes and will create their own confidence in themselves. We all cherish having someone to confide in, a mentor, big brother/sister or buddy!
