Mike Runs for United States War Dog Association
Hello! I am Mike and I am running the Cayons 100k Trail Race to raise funds and awareness for the United States War Dog Association.
The USWDA is an incredible non-profit organization made up of prior MWD handlers who work hard to provide support for our nation’s current and retired service animals. Your donation will help this team provide numerous essential services such as care packages, specialized veterinary care, drug prescriptions, wheelchairs, and end-of-life care.
This mission is close to my heart. I served as an MWD handler in the US Navy and was fortunate to be able to adopt my first dog, Hero. Hero was and still is, an incredible canine to be around. He is tenacious, hilariously stubborn, stoic, loving, and somehow perpetually hungry. I watched him work three nights at Camp David in -30 degree weather without a care, just happy to be working and getting love from those of us sharing the misery. Now, at age 14, his service is slowly catching up with him. There isn't a thing in the world I wouldn't do for him, and I know that I am not the only handler or pet owner who shares that feeling when thinking of their own.
Donating to the US War Dog Association is an opportunity to honor the bond between human and canine. This money can help a dog team overseas or even extend the life of a retired service animal--gifting a priceless opportunity for more days together. These warriors shared the front lines with our troops, offering unwavering service and support during one of our nation’s most turbulent times. They are our unsung heroes, our friends, and our family members. Together, by contributing to the USWDA, we honor the love and valor they bring us and ensure they receive the care they deserve after serving our country.
