Most of us are lucky enough to have memories of home.  Kids thrive when they feel safe, and loved, and warm.  Memories of those feelings return and sustain us throughout our adult lives.  For some, childhood memories are cold and filled with fear and loneliness. This is true of the tens of thousands of children who flee their homes and their countries to find a safe place in the United States.

Imagine for a moment that you are twelve again. Instead of preparing for middle school, you are packing a small bag and walking away from your home and your family. Your mother is sending you north because she believes it is better for you to experience the heartbreak of leaving and to risk the dangers of travel than for you to face violence, bloodshed, forced prostitution, and the near certainty of an early death at home.

If you cannot imagine facing this as a twelve year old, can you imagine being that parent? Can you imagine being the mom whose best option is to send her child away and wait and hope and pray that the child finds safety?  This year alone an estimated 60,000 children will flee their countries, without a parent or guardian, to escape violence and oppression and to find safety in the United States.

Child Refuge, Inc. is a nonprofit charity being formed to help these children find their way to a new, safe home. Our ultimate goal is to build a large home where unaccompanied child refugees can live.  The home will provide shelter, nurture, and access to educational and medical resources.  The home will partner with immigration attorneys to ensure the children get the best representation possible.  Child Refuge will also partner with international organizations to provide the child with the safest return back to the child's country of origin when necessary.

Detained Women & Children, Texas 2014

We are now waiting for the Federal Government to approve our non-profit status.  While we cannot apply for most grants until after our non-profit status is approved, we do not want to sit still.  We found out that most of the child refugees being detained need basic supplies like clean socks, warm blankets, toothpaste, and backpacks they can call their own.  Child Refuge, Inc. would love to buy these supplies in bulk and give at least 100 children a carepackage by Christmas 2014.  Will you help us make his happen?  Your support is greatly appreciated.
