"100 Miles with Medsoc" in aid of Galway Sick Kids Foundation

Galway Sick Kids Foundation was established to fund-raise for the purchasing of equipment, medical and other, for use in the promotion of health, including the prevention or relief of sickness, disease and human suffering in the Paediatric Unit of University Hospital Galway.

They endeavour to raise funds to make a difference and improve the hospital experience for the children attending GUH paediatric unit. This fantastic charity supports children and their families through stressful times by providing basic facilities, equipment and information in a child-focused, friendly environment.

They support the children of Galway, Donegal, Sligo, Roscommon, Mayo and North Clare.

This February, Medsoc are asking both students and staff to join in by running or walking "100 miles with Medsoc" to raise much needed funds for the Galway Sick Kids Foundation.

Thanks for your help, and check out the website below for more information!

Hello everybody!

Just an update as this campaign has come to a close, and we have managed to raise €7,085 for the the Galway Sick Kids Foundation!

Following from this, here is some more information about the campaign and the organiser!

My name is Liezel Ravenscroft, and I am a fourth year medical student in NUI Galway. This is my first time organising a fundraiser for the Galway Sick Kids Foundation, as a volunteer. I first encountered this fantastic charity while I was on placement in paediatrics in University Hospital Galway. There, they do fantastic work to make the hospital. more kid friendly place.

At the moment, they are busy refurbishing one of the bathrooms in the paediatric ward, to make it disability friendly. Another important project they are currently undertaking is redecorating the corridors of the paediatric ward. All the funds raised through this campaign will be used to contribute to these projects, as well as future projects.

HOW WILL GALWAY SICK KIDS RECEIVE THE MONEY?
The funds raised through this campaign, will be withdrawn into my own personal bank account. Once this happen, I will share an update of the final amount raised which will include what GoFundMe has deducted as part of their fees.

After this, the money will be transferred directly into the Galway Sick Kids Foundation Bank Account. I will share an update as soon as this is done.

The above method was chosen due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, which would prevent us from doing an in person presentation.
