My sister Roxanne McGillis, known affectionately to many of her friends and family as Roxie, was diagnosed with breast cancer in March of 2016. At first she didn't want to tell her family, because that's just the kind of person she is - she didn't want us to worry about her or feel sad about it. But after she told us, we knew that we would do anything we possibly could to help her in this battle, and that's why we are setting up this gofundme account for her.
Since her diagnosis, Roxie has been through chemo, a masectomy, radiation, and debilitating neuropathy.... and probably many other things that she wouldn't want us to worry about. But that's our Roxie - always thinking of others before herself. Once she's feeling better, she faces another surgery that will help prevent the cancer from coming back . We know that she is facing a large amount of medical bills from all her treatments, and financial worries are probably starting to take their toll emotionally. Collectors are starting to call and she hasn't been able to get back to work as quickly as she wanted. We want Roxie to be well, and worry-free... exactly what she wants for everyone that crosses her path. So, we humbly ask all of you, our family and friends, to help us in help Roxie, so we can set her on a path to be healthy and financially secure again.
We want you to know that Roxie would never ask for help. She has been on her own since she was 18, supporting herself and her daughter. She put herself through school, and became a nurse. Her patients regularly acknowledge her as being a favorite. Roxie is one of the kindest, sweetest, most caring people I have ever known. She deserves all good things in life, and we'd appreciate anything you can give to recognize and help this amazing and inspiring lady.
