Eyeglasses for Georgia

Go Fund Me Campaign

Raising Funds to Provide Affordable Eyeglasses to Georgians in Need.

(WSB-TV Coverage of Our Fundraising Campaign)

Each year, the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation uses two machines to produce all of the over 7,000 pairs of eyeglasses we make for underinsured and uninsured Georgians who would not otherwise be able to afford to purchase eyeglasses.

Our machines receive regular repairs, but have now been operating far longer than their expected lifespan. Also they produce glasses at 6 times the normal capacity because the need for eyeglasses has grown so large.

It is time to replace these machines.

Through grants and donations, we have kept the equipment running far past the machine's normal expected lifespans, but  it’s only a matter of time before they will permanently breakdown and stop working.
This would result in months of non-production and impact thousands of Georgians.

The machines cost $75,000 each and that is why it is so important that we reach our goal of $150,000 so both of these aging machines can be replaced.

Most of the patients who utilize The Lighthouse’s services are underserved children and adults like TJ and Linda:

TJ was born with glaucoma, which was corrected with surgery but left him in need of corrective eyewear. Without his glasses, TJ and other children with vision problems are in jeopardy of stifling their academic performance because vision problems make it difficult to focus on learning.

As Linda aged, she had problems reading and driving at night. Obtaining her antiglare bifocal glasses allowed her to read with ease, and gain renewed independence.

The campaign will be conducted from July 1 -July 31.
Every dollar raised here will go towards the purchase of the two new machines.

About Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation

The Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation has clinic locations throughout the state and provides vision and hearing services through education, detection, prevention and treatment. Collaborative partnerships enable greater independence and increased quality of life for Georgians in financial need.

The Lighthouse enrollees in need of eyewear are eligible for an eye exam and glasses every two years and pay between $3 and $5 for basic single vision and plastic-lined bifocals. It currently takes 4-6 weeks to turnaround an order.

Last year more than 7,091 pair of eyeglasses were produced.

• Every donation helps brings sight into focus (for those in need).

• Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation’s vision care is clearing the path to independence.

• Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation fills the gap for those who can’t afford to pay full price for eye exams and eyeglasses.

• Looking out for the underserved who need vision care (needs help seeing).

• All money raised will be used to purchase the optical equipment.

Facts:

• Uncorrected vision problems can impact a child's development, interfere with learning, and lead to permanent vision loss. Early detection and treatment are critical.

• Visual acuity (or vision health) is a strong predictor of academic performance in school-age children.

• Childhood vision disorders can affect health and well-being into adulthood. (More than 1 in 5 pre-school age children enrolled in Head Start have vision disorders.)

• Providing vision care/eyeglasses helps seniors maintain their independence.
