Experience local Malaysian life

Donation protected
As a backpacker, you're always looking for that local, authentic experience.

This was the case for me when in Malaysia, I was lucky enough to meet this incredible family: Zaki, his wife Yati and their beautiful daughter Sophia.

[Breakfast time at the local restaurant]

For almost a year, in a village called Lurah Bilut, they've been hosting tourists for free via platforms such as Couchsurfing and Workaway, driven by their desire to offer a glimpse into their local life for foreigners, to learn and exchange knowledge and also benefit the wider village community.

Their welcoming, inclusive outlook on life is refreshing, and as a guest who has experienced their generous hospitality, I want to help them take their local experience to the next level.

To raise enough money that can transform their home into commercially viable accommodation for guests to stay and to support the resources that can kickstart an activities programme for tourists and locals alike.

The donations raised will go towards roofing and building materials, bedding and transport, which we'd like to raise before end of November 2018. If successful, they hope to host guests from January 2019 onwards.

[Half finished accommodation needs funds to complete]

With the self-sustainable profit they generate, Zaki and Yati have visions of planting an edible garden, launching a kayaking hotspot in the nearby river and investing in local initiatives to ensure the 'soft' tourism keeps their family and community growing.

With your help, we can help them achieve this :)
