Help Sophie's Crazy Liver

Donation protected
My fifteen-year-old beagle/corgi cross seems determined to take years off my life. She's had some health problems off and on for a few years now (including Cushing's) which my vet and I have endeavored to stay on top of. Unfortunately, despite a positive checkup from the vet last Friday, early on Monday she came down with sudden onset acute diarrhea/vomiting/loss of appetite, which sent me into a spiral of worry about her liver issues popping up again.

(Sophie at the vet on Tuesday.)

After some antibiotics and meds, she's doing better, but her liver values are crazy high. Also, this emergency hit me out of nowhere at a time I'm basically drowning. I've had multiple deaths in my family over a short period of time, terrible medical issues of my own, I am battling a pretty serious episode of depression, and--oh yeah--I'm bloody poor because I'm a writer/freelancer and work has been quite slow. I'd saved up my pennies for her checkup last week and now this slapped me pretty hard.

Sadly, I do not have a used-panty-selling business up and running yet, so tossing just a fiver into the pot to help Sophie right now would be greatly appreciated.

I have an excellent veternarian who is always careful about not overcharging me, but even then it adds up with multiple blood tests (to monitor her liver, check for pancreatitis) anti-nausea meds, and antibiotics. The $650 campaign goal covers the bare minimum of all that--if we run into another emergency, I'll adjust it up, and if a bit more comes in, I'll likely buy a sling for helping her get up the apartment stairs (her hind limbs are weak).

She could have an infection that's making her liver work extra hard. It could also be the Cushing's. It could still be something else knocking around in there. Regardless, we don't want to wait and see if she get sicker. Since I was very ill last year, my freelance work has gone from 6-10 clients a month to 2, royalties are down across the board, and I can cover rent/bills/pet food next month but little else.

If you drop $10 or more in the pot, have a look at my ebooks for sale  and tell me what one you want and in what format, and I'll send you a copy.

Anyone tossing (a lot) more than a fiver in the pot: friend and awesome knitter Dina James  will make you a basket weave scarf AND hat in your color choice if you kick in $250.  (If you want to be VERY evil, you could choose pink for her to knit with.)

ETA: If you donate, leave a comment here and you can win a chance to become a character in Rhys Ford's FINAL Cole McGinnis book.

If you're one of my writing patrons or a regular client, please don't worry about contributing--merely sharing the GFM campaign for Sophie also helps tremendously, you don't have to throw more cash at me.

Also...um, if you need a designer, I can take on new covers, layout, and formatting in July! (I actually LOATHE asking for money and would happily take on new clients. Or you can buy some books .)

About Sophie

I've had Sophie since she was seven weeks old (when I was seventeen). She's been with me through everything and she is, quite literally, the very best dog that exists. I am sorry to other dogs, but it's true.

She's deaf and she's slowed down, but still doing well. She's the light of my life and brings joy to others as a Trent Hills Therapy Dog--we visit the hospital (and sometimes the nursing home) every week where she brightens up the lives of others.

Any pennies you can toss her way for the vet helps us enormously and you have my deepest gratitude.
