Those who donated $25 or more on Friday, March 8 through Monday, March 11, were invited to join a 2-hour webinar taught by Rebecca Dekker entitled, "Top 3 Barriers to Evidence Based Care: Difficult Individuals, Systems of Oppression, and Trauma."

There will be two identical live webinar options to choose from, and those who can't make it live will be sent the link to the replay (replay will be available for one month). The two live webinar options are:

-Monday, March 25 at 8 PM EST
-Wednesday, March 27 at 11 AM EST

Attendance is good for 2 nursing contact hours, which can also be applied to the CPM certification as well as most doula and CBE certifications.

We are SO excited to teach this webinar and raise funds for an amazing cause in the process!

The Fundraiser

Join us in donating to the Birth Worker of Color Scholarship Fund, so that we can create a space at the Evidence Based Birth® Conference for people of all walks of life to come together and have shared learning that benefits us all.

The Backstory

Evidence Based Birth® is hosting a conference for birth professionals in Lexington, Kentucky, on September 25-27, 2019. We  genuinely want to ensure a diverse perspective and representation at this important event.

We know, that because of systemic racism and prejudice, people of color in the United States experience:

-Higher maternal mortality rates
-Higher stillbirth rates
-Higher infant death rates

As long as these disparities exist, we would like to remove barriers to attending the conference for birth workers of color who want to participate.

"As an African American Midwife in the State of Louisiana, obtaining educational resources, such as evidence based information, training, and quality supplies, can sometimes be a challenge. However, for me, Evidence Based Birth® has helped to make that process less challenging with their expertise in the field of non-biased research, their training, and their commitment to helping me close the gap of racial disparities found in my community. Thanks to Evidence Based Birth®, I am now Closer to Making my Vision of Eliminating Birthing Biases and Bad Outcomes among Women of Color a REALITY! I am forever grateful and appreciative to Evidence Based Birth® for providing me with their training, information, tools, supplies, and services. THANK YOU! -Charlotte Goudeau, LM, CPM, Evidence Based Birth® Instructor

The Costs

We want to provide 30 full scholarships to birth workers of color who have expressed interest in attending the 2019 Evidence Based Birth® Conference. We would like to be able to cover the costs of not only their registration, but also their hotel and travel expenses!

We have calculated that it will cost, on average, $800 per professional to provide registration, hotel, travel expenses, and meals.

Therefore, we plan to raise $25,000 to cover the conference and travel costs and ensure that these 30 birth workers can participate in the conference.

The Organizations

Evidence Based Birth®, owned by Rebecca Dekker, PhD, RN, APRN, is hosting the conference. This fundraising effort is being directed by Rebecca Dekker and Chanté Perryman, certified doula and childbirth educator, and coordinator of the Evidence Based Birth® Professional Membership.

Birth Monopoly Foundation, a non-profit foundation headed by Cristen Pascucci and Caroline Malatesta, has graciously agreed to accept the donations on our behalf, so that your donations will have tax-deductible status.

The good news is that 100% of all donations will go directly to the scholarships for birth workers of color; we will not be using any of the funds for administrative costs.

"Having Evidence Based Birth® resources right at my fingertips has made a more confident and reliable birth advocate in my community.... I can assist families to the best of my ability in knowing EBB is using current information for me to use." -Rae Johnson-Bundy, CD (DONA), Childbirth Educator, Evidence Based Birth® Instructor

We are so thankful for your support! Tonight is the last night to donate $25 and get an invitation to the webinar about the Top 3 Barriers to Evidence Based Care! For those of you who already donated-- THANK YOU!!

We're still in the donor matching period, so every $25 that is donated through tonight will be matched, up to $5,500. We still have about $2,900 left in matching funds... please help us get there!

I just did the math... if we raise $8,000 total (we're at a total of $5,115 as I type this), we will get ANOTHER $5,500 in matching funds, which will bring us to $13,500! That is about 17 full travel scholarships that we will be able to award to Birth Workers of Color!

Please share this campaign with your friends and family. Together, we can do this!
