A. Evette Hornes was hit by a Bunkie man arrested for DWI.  (Click for article.)

On Saturday, November 10, 2018, A. Evette Hornes was run over by a drunk driver at the repast of a relative she went to Bunkie, LA to attend after a funeral. The suspect hit Evette with a 2004 Ford truck after she went to her car to take off her heels and get her slippers from the trunk. He then hit her car, and another car with two additional relatives in it, while trying to get away. At that time, he backed over Evette, then pulled forward and rolled over her again.

Evette is now recovering from surgery at Rapides General Hospital in Alexandria, LA. She suffered a broken pelvic bone and has limited use of both legs for at least two months with six rods, one six inch screw, and a plate holding her together. She cannot walk and will be released into the care of her mother, Diane Hornes, of Bunkie, LA in about a week. Meanwhile, her son (Gabriel, 18) and daughter (Justice, 12) will be in Arlington, TX with their aunts and uncles.

Evette is unable to return to Texas, which also means she will not return to work. She is a widow and will be in Bunkie through the new year, and it will be determined by her surgeon when she will be ready to return home at a later time. Still, it will take a full year to recover completely, and her financial obligations will not wait for her to return.

Thank you all for praying, calling, texting, visiting, crying, etc. Several of you have asked how you can help, this is the most meaningful way right now. Bills have to be paid. The children are also still in school (Gabe's senior year), and I am not thrilled that I have to leave my mom - who is still recovering from a car accident back in April that left her with 10 broken ribs and a fractured ankle - to care for my sister who was hit by a drunk driver.

If you can support, please do so. If not, we understand. Please share. Thanks again for reaching out and for simply caring.

Affectionately,

Shaundale Hornes Johnson, on behalf of the entire Hornes-Jones family.

P.S. Drink responsibly.  Our lives are forever changed.
