In need of a true smile
Since I was 10, I've been searching for help and answers. I was born with cleft lip and i don't believe my parents went through the process of having the surgeries done that I should've had when I was younger. My upper teeth have grown in very deformed in shape, size, and placement. I've never seen anything like what's going on in my mouth. I had some help before I turned 18 because I was able to get insurance through health and human services and I was able to have a few teeth pulled, but I wanted more to be pulled because I knew they weren't ever going to be fixed because I didn’t have much time with that insurance and wouldn’t have the money in the future to fix them. Here I am today at 26 and right about not being able to get them fixed. I haven't been able to do anything about my situation due to not having the money or resources. All I want is to be able to smile from ear to ear, and have a functional normal mouth. I currently have a partial denture that is just hiding the mess in my mouth. I feel self continuous with this denture because I can't smile very big or you can see the sides of my teeth where the metal anchors are and how it differs from my real teeth on the sides of my smile. I've really been wanting dental implants. I would need to have 3 clusters of teeth pulled that are protruding through the right side of the middle of my gum where they should not be seen at all. I feel like at this point to get the most natural smile I’d really just need to remove all the few top teeth I have left (not many left really). I would need a bone graft possibly, And then the implants. The cost of these procedures seems like an unreal amount of money I will never have or be able to afford or get a loan for.
This has been a dream of mine since I was a kid. I’ve been bullied a lot of my life, for a long period of my life I was never able to smile with an open mouth and had trouble eating because I didn’t have a real front bite. I have trouble breathing due to my nose as well because my nose is not Symmetrical so I am a mouth breather. I can live with my nose at this point but just really want a natural permanent smile. I have to shower in order to brush my teeth because food and the adhesive from the denture gets caught up in the cluster of teeth and it takes so long to brush all that stuff off and out of the tight spots. Something that generally takes most people 5 mins to do takes me 15 or so and my mouth still never feels clean. I constantly feel like I have bad breath. It’s very hard because I love to camp but with out a shower or private bathroom it’s hard for me to brush my teeth and it takes me a long time to brush them over a sink having to deal with the extreme brushing I have to do, and brushing two sets of teeth and making sure to move slow so I don’t drop and shatter my partial denture. This scares me so much because I don’t have the money to just go get another denture if I shatter mine.
I live a very active lifestyle and this one thing slows me down a lot more than you would think, it stops me from certain things and eating some foods and eating around people because I can’t tear through food like people with regular teeth. My denture gets loose if I try to bite down on some foods or try to pull food with my teeth to rip it off. This partial denture isn’t made to be permanent the dentist has told me so I’m seeking help for a permanent solution with no hope because I know I cant afford the next steps to either get another removable but full denture or permanent A04 denture.
They’re both very costly. My goal is to have the permanent A04 solution but again the cost of that just doesn’t seem reachable so I’ll just take the leap for a full permanent denture. Imagine having to pay 25k + for something you were born with for free. I wish all I needed were braces. That wouldve made this so much easier even more so for my younger self to get help with.
This is what the dentist has told me so far
regular extractions $225
ridge preservation bone grafting per quad $450( if needed? )
immediate full denture upper $2840
“Its always better to graft to preserve ridge and that can cost $450 per area but isnt always needed as sockets will fill in with bone just not as much.”
“Just an FYI, 9 extractions and an immediate full upper denture will be in the ball park of $4500 “ Dr. Booth
4500 doesn’t include if I need bone grafting/ ridge preservation. That cluster of teeth I have I’m worried there will need to be something done there because once the teeth are pulled it seems like there will be a big hole
I still have hope for this. Please if you see this just give it a share. I don’t know how much it’s been shared yet but an amazing woman who I contacted via ig shared it on her story on Instagram. Thank you so much Mackenzie!!!
Every year I go through a phase of trying to find help, trying to find recourses and every year it seems to fail because there is no help for anyone over 18. I barely make enough to scratch by. I could never afford this and saving up just seems impossible because how much it cost. I feel like it would take my whole lifetime to save up to this amount.
Can’t believe it’s been one month. I still don’t have it in me to share this with anyone I know to help share. If you’re out there please share this because I’m counting on people who my not know me to spread this. I can’t keep living with this fake temporary cover up for my real problem.
