We have had a Christmas Eve Fun Day every year since 2013 (yes, this is our 5th Fun Day, we can't believe it either!). In 2013 we started with 60 children and 30 volunteers, but this year we will have our biggest group ever; 130 children and 145 volunteers. We are more excited than ever before to share Christmas with these beautiful children.
We started this initiative after realizing that Christmas (a time that is extremely joyful, filled with family, friends, thanksgiving, love, gifts and food), was just a regular day for many children in children's homes. They lacked the many things that make Christmas special and we realized we could do something to make Christmas even a little better; so we did just that. We created a Fun Day in which we would not only do fun activities, but educational and therapeutic activities together. We have become the family that many of these children don't have and we take that privilege very seriously. Our Fun Days have not only been happy times, but healing times as well.
On Christmas Eve, we have dance workshops, music workshops, art classes, football, ultimate frisbee tournaments, manicures and pedicures, and of course, we have a sit down family meal together. We give each child a gift with their name on it from under our tree. Each gift contains clothing, school supplies and toys personalized for every single boy and girl we serve.
