Please Help Our Family

So, this is the most difficult thing we have ever done, my wife and I have exhausted every avenue available to us, and now, without any other options we are reaching out to the world. As the song says, "here's my story its sad but true" we were small business owners living a modest but full life. We owned a small landscaping company that we started, not out of a desire to own our own business but the company I was working for, which was owned by my (who I thought) best friend went under. To keep food on the table for our 3 children ages newborn to 4, we started the company to keep working and our (who we thought) best friend worked with us. To make a ridiculously long story short, this individual lost 2 major contracts we had and in turn we lost $91000. He disappeared and left us holding the preverbial bag.
We didn't close shop, we struggled and struggled to keep the business alive, I worked everyday 7 days a week, 365 days a year for the better part of 3 years. If I was not at work, I was thinking of work, If i was not thinking of work I was dreaming of work...you get the picture. Finally the business could no longer support itself, nor our family, and with an extremelly heavy heart we had to close the doors almost 3 months ago. We tried our hardest to keep it alive, took only enough money to survive, the rest went to bills, but no matter how hard we worked, as a small business it was impossible to overcome a loss of that magnitude. We were not able to save during that time, nor can we apply for employment insurance as we never paid in to it. As a family of 5 our bills are not cheap as you can imagine, from rent to food its a huge chunk of money each month. To try to stay affloat for the last 3 months we sold our 2 work trucks, our dump trailer, and tools of the trade to pay the remaining bills for the company and of course to live. We had our resumes professionally done and set out to find jobs, we thought that with my experience (9 years) in the construction industry and heavy equipment operation that the jobs would come soon. Well that has not been the case, we have applied for jobs across our country, we are willing to relocate, but as of yet nothing. Our families are not well off, like most they live from payday to payday, and have lent us all they can afford.
This is where we come to you, our friends, family, neighbors, and every other person who has been in financial distress. We are not lazy people, we are hard working parents who would do absoloutly anything for our children, we worked everyday for years at a job that was a struggle but did so to provide for our 3 kids. We are setting up this gofundme page out of love for our children. When the van payment is 7 payments behind, when the rent check is going to bounce, when the fridge emptys and we have spent every last penny we have, we are very scared for our kids immediate future. My mistake was to start looking for work in winter, very difficult time to seek employment in my trade at this time of year. We are asking for $8500 to help us keep a roof over our heads as we are behind on virtually every household bill and van payments and to support us, while I (Blair) continue applying for jobs coast to coast as my experience will bring in the larger portion of our money, (Kathy will get a job doing whatever she can when we land wherever the job brings our family). The $8500 will sustain us for only a short period of time, but will take some of the stress away as we continue to search for work. We realize that the amount of money we are asking for is huge, we are not blind to that fact, but being behind on our bills, and more on their way, the amount we are asking for is not for gain, we promise you that, its to stop us from loosing everything.
To any and all that may view this, we feel sick about asking strangers for money, we lay awake at night worrying, but at the end of the day we are sucking up our pride, self esteem, and dignity, in hopes that kind hearted individuals will help us keep a roof over our childrens heads while we pursue meaningful employment. Our small landscaping company afforded us the ability to rent a house that we love, have a used van payment that we need as there are 5 of us, and let us have a few luxeries (cable, xbox, a very used snow machine), these small luxeries are now gone and we are doing everything possible to not have our children effected even more by our lose of income. We, Kathy and I are very fortunate that we believe that money is essential, but our relationship and our family life is far more important, we love each other very much, and are desperatly trying to maintain our way of life and not have our current financial situation ruin us. We are asking for help for the short term, this is not how we want life to be, we want and enjoy working, just need some momentary help.
Everything I have said here is the absolute truth, we are a middle class family that through no fault of our own lost our livleyhood, and now we need help to survive till we gain a foothold. I send resumes everyday, I pray everyday for a job, and I try with all my heart to be a good dad and husband,and not let the insane stress ruin my family. So if you can help in some small way, it would be so greatly appreciated, and please, please look at us with empathy not coldness or disrespect, we are trying to move forward and we could use some serious help, thats the truth.
In return, whatever the donations end up being, we will pay it forward, and over the next 5 to 10 years we'll donate the equivilent amount of money to charity. We will be asking for input from the social media community as to which charities to donate to, and will continuously update FB when a donation to a specific charity has been made.
