ETSP Schools' Poetry & Art Project

Donation protected
The Enfield Town Schools’ Partnership is a collaboration of diverse local schools who develop opportunities to:
·      Nurture pupil talent.
·      Encourage excellence.
·      Maximise every child’s potential.
·      Increase pupils’ self-confidence and self-esteem.
·      Develop characteristics that inspire each child to grow into responsible and active members of the community.
·      Provide a unique experience for all our children.

We do this through providing cultural and creative art opportunities for children who may otherwise be limited in participating in such events.

The partnership has planned an eight week project exploring the theme of ‘Global Citizenship’ through poetry and visual art for pupils aged between 5 and 15 years old. One year group, from each of our 21 schools, will take part in workshops with a professional poet to develop their own performance poems. Children will perform at a series of school community events culminating in two performances to a live audience at a local theatre. The theme will be embedded in the curriculum; visual artwork will be produced to support the pupils’ written work and circle time and mentoring will support pupils’ emotional wellbeing.

We have been unsuccessful with bid applications to fully fund this project. To ensure we can deliver this programme to pupils we are turning to our community to ask if you can make a financial contribution to support this project. Any contribution, however big or small, will make a difference. We have until the end of April to reach our target!

We are all experiencing change within our schools with increased pupil mobility, a more culturally diverse community and children joining our schools without the ability to communicate in English. Some of these pupils and families have experienced significant adversity and change. We believe our ‘Global Citizenship’ project will be an effective tool in exploring and addressing some of the issues our children are facing.

We would like to develop our partnership with The Poetry Society and provide opportunity for poets to work on a large project that will engage a broad and diverse community. This project will enable pupils to work with acclaimed poets and be a part of a professional performance in the borough.

We hope this project addresses pupil poverty of cultural experience and demonstrates our commitment to delivering an exciting and creatively rich curriculum.
