Ethan Schwartz is an amazing 6 year old boy! He brings so much joy and inspiration to everyone he meets with his beautiful smile and tenacious spirit. Ethan's journey began at birth with several surgeries to address his congenital heart defect. A few weeks after his 2nd birthday, Ethan had his 4th heart surgery and suffered a cardiac arrest which led to an anoxic brain injury. Gone was the vivacious, rough housing little boy loved by so many.
4 years later, Ethan is our Champ, beating all of the odds stacked against him. Recently, his heart condition has become more tenuous, requiring much more frequent and prolonged hospital stays nearly an hour and a half from home. Ethan's got this...he will be the comeback kid yet again!
Ethan has endured a lot in his 6 short years: 4 open heart surgeries and numerous cardiac procedures, acquiring a brain injury resulting in spastic quadraplegia cerebral palsy, a tracheostomy, 2 g-tube surgeries, cortical visual impairment, a severe clotting issue, high muscle tone, and a risk for bone fracture. He requires constant and exhausting care around the clock, as he is completely dependent on Mom, Dad, or nurses for every aspect of daily life.
While caring for Ethan is hard, it is well worth the smile on his face. He loves going to school and family time. Movie night is the best! He is full of personality, with his smirks, smiles and attitude. Ethan's eyes tell you so much (and follow you everywhere!) and his smiles lights up the darkest of days.
It takes a village to raise a child like Ethan and to provide as normal a life as possible. As he grows, he requires new equipment to accommodate his needs. Ethan needs a potable ramp and lift that can be taken with his family so Ethan is able to visit friends and family and attend events wth his big sister, and to continue to engage with his world in his wheelchair. There are also therapies that are very beneficial to Ethan cognitively and physically, that are completely out of pocket costs. That’s where your help comes in. Please help make his life as comfortable and happy as possible for him at home with his wonderful big sister Julianna! Every little bit goes a long way in easing the financial burden on Ethan’s family.
