Ethans Pusey’s Story

Ethan Pusey was born a healthy baby boy on the 21st of May 2011 at Kalgoorlie Regional Hospital. He weighed 3030 grams and returned home from hospital within 24 hours of being born.

At 3 months old Ethan was diagnosed with food allergies and his diet was changed as he was allergic to dairy and egg products. He continued to grow and strive as a perfectly healthy boy.

Ethan started to crawl at 5 months old and after that he was on the go and walking at a young age of 9 months and talking by 13 months old.

Ethan is a happy, smart and energetic boy who started an unpleasant journey at the age of 16 months when he woke up with a puffy eye. After seeking medical attention the same day we were advised that it was an eye infection similar to conjunctivitis. Chlorsig eye drops were prescribed and the doctor assured us it would clear up within three days. The following day Ethan’s eye was puffy and inflamed even more than the first day and my mother’s instincts kicked in and I immediately took him to Kalgoorlie Regional Hospital as I knew something wasn’t right.

He was transferred to PMH for observations and to see an eye specialist. The doctors at PMH immediately sent Ethan for scans and xrays which showed a Ciliary body cyst growing in his nasal passage and optic nerve. The pain was intense in his left eye. The cyst caused Ethan to lose some sight in that eye.

In 2012 Ethan had his first operation to remove the cysts and to try and save some of his sight in his left eye. Ethan was monitored and had a series of appointments before having another operation in 2013. This time it would be to remove the glaucoma and cataracts. This operation left Ethan with the devastating news that he no longer had any vision in his left eye.

Over the next year Ethan trialed different eye drops to reduce the pain and pressure he was experiencing and to give him some comfort. He was put through a number of scans as the pressure wouldn’t reduce and the symptoms began to get worse.

2015 Ethan was subjected to another operation and a tube what inserted in his eye to drain the fluid and to help reduce the pressure.

The pain for little Ethan grew stronger and stronger and in 2016 Ethan had further scans and they showed that another cyst is growing in the optic nerve at the back of his eye.

The heartbreaking news we then received was devastating. Ethan was placed on a 90 day waiting list to remove his eye.

Monday March 2017 was the day my son had his eye removed along with the cyst and the eye with the cyst was being sent away for testing.

One week later Ethan was recovering when the test results returned.

Ethan at the age of 5 years, 2 months before his 6th birthday was told he had CANCER.

The doctors didn’t have answers on what type it was and sent the results to America for further investigation.

Two days later the specialists in America had a name;

Ciliary Body Medulloepitheliama.

Since the diagnosis we have learnt that it is a rare type of cancer that only 41 people have. They say Ethan is the only person in Australia to get this diagnosis.

On the 10th of April little Ethan had a series of test. We are still waiting for the results from the spine lumbar and other tests to determine the exact treatment he can have to prevent further tumors attaching to the brain.

So as we hope for the best but expect the worst we would like to help with Ethans wish.

Ethan is a strong willed boy and is determined to fight this disease like HULK.  His love for his favorite Marvel Characters has him staying strong day in and day out with all the pain he is enduring.

Ethan’s wishes are to go to Movie World, Queensland, with his family (Mum, Dad, Brother and Sister) to meet the characters that have kept him strong throughout his painful experiences. His 2nd wish is to go to Lego World.

Please help this brave, strong fighter and donate what you can. Please also pray for Ethan and his family during this hard time and time of pain.
