Greetings friends and family alike,
Horrible news has been unfortunately discovered with one of our young loved ones. With heavy grief and enormous heartbreaks amongst everyone, Ethan Heng, a child at the tender age of 5, has been stricken with brain cancer. Ethan suffers from a highly aggressive brain tumor found at the base of the brain called Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, or DIPG for short.
As a quick overview about the illness, DIPG is a tumor that begins at the brainstem, the part of the brain just above the back of the neck that’s connected to the spine. The brain stem controls many of the body’s vitals such as breathing, heart rate and also the nerves that controls our muscles that help us see, hear, walk, talk, and eat.

With the advances of modern medicine and treatment, one of the things that has not progressed is a true answer for DIPG. There is unfortunately no effective treatment for any child that goes through this kind of illness. The chances of survival are unfortunately not good.

But we have hope! Ethan is truly one of the strongest kids you will ever see! Approximately 2 days into his diagnosis, he still has not needed the use of sedation for any of the MRI’s and scans he’s already endured. He’s truly a trooper! We have hope and a tremendous amount of it to believe that Ethan has the strength and fortitude to fight this illness with the love of not only his parents or his family, but the love of everyone around him.
I come to you asking for help. There are somethings in life that we have to spare, but time is not one of them. However, one thing we can do for Ethan is buy time. This up and coming Thursday, Ethan will begin the initial steps of his radiation treatment. The treatments for any individual going through cancer is incredibly expensive. No parent should be forced to pay such an incredible price to save their child. That is where we come in.
My name is Vincent. I am Sam’s nephew and I wanted to put it upon all of us who have a chance to help to know that we can. Sam and Catherine, Ethan’s parents, already have so much to endure and I do not want them to have additional stress than they are already going through. This GoFundMe is dedicated to the funding of Ethan’s treatment so that we may be able to have Ethan grace our worlds for as long as we can have him. Please, I ask that you may be able to support his cause and donate however way and however much you can. This is one instance where money can buy time. Every single penny will be going to his cause and the expenses that he will be enduring. However way you can help is all that matters. If you donate even $1, that’s one more dollar to help Ethan.
