Esseh Memorial Fund

Esseh came to us just days after Hurrivane Harvey. He is the whole reason we started our rescue. After almost exactly 7 months in Canada, Esseh passed away from thyroid cancer. He died lovingly in the arms of his adoptive parents.

Esseh was found last summer blind with badly infected eyes. In tremendous pain, the pound was about to euthanize him when Hot Mess Pooches showed up an hour before euthanasia and brought him to Houston. He had both of his eyes removed and not long after that Hurricane Harvey hit, leaving his rescue overwhelmed with dogs. 

Hot Mess Pooches reached out to her friend in Toronto who agreed to take Esseh and find him home. Esseh lead to several other dogs and then because of him hundreds more. Some with vision and hearing impairments, as well as disabilities.

Esseh became an ambassador not only for dogs who have survived natural disasters and shelters, but also a dog determined to live his best life. Despite the agony and pain he had sustained, Esseh only had love for those in his life.

Esseh had appeared on national and international news. He took everything in stride and never lost patience. We don't know how long Esseh had been blind for, but we do know it was not his whole life. He went from being blind in an overcrowded shelter slated for euthanasia, to a van to Canada. 

In Canada, Esseh encountered snow for the first time. He ate cheeseburgers. He met Smiley The Blind Dog. He sat gracefully in TV stations. He was a wonderful representative.

In his seven months in Canada, Esseh put on weight, he relaxed and his dalmatian spots multiplied. He found happiness.

We have started the Esseh Memorial fund in his honor to continue helping dogs with vision impairments and disabilities. This fund is meant to enable us to continue to take in dogs under Esseh's valiant legacy.
