Erin’s battle : pyoderma gangrenosum.

Donation protected

My name is Lauren. I have had the pleasure of getting to know Erin over the last several years. I have cherished every moment and Erin has become one of my close amazing friends.  She is one of the most dedicated hearts not only to her son, but to her friends. We bonded over being single moms to the same age boys. She leads a very healthy and active lifestyle and has helped and encouraged me in so many ways. Many of us who are close to her can say the same.
There’s a saying why do bad things happen to such amazing people? We might never know the answer, but as a community we can help. After a routine surgery Erin was hospitalized the day before Christmas with a fever and sign of infection. She spent Christmas in the hospital and remains there fighting for not only her life but her body.
Her young son does not understand what is happening to his mom and was sad she had to spend Christmas in the hospital. This broke her heart.  She is his only parent and sole provider. He is special needs and she has poured her heart and soul into helping him adapt into a fast paced world. She is his rock and at this time is not able to be his beacon.
Unresponsive to antibiotics the doctors found the only way to save Erin’s life was to surgically remove the infected tissue and skin. Erin has been hospitalized and is currently in ICU. She has underwent  4 emergency surgeries, in addition to the original outpatient surgery, to help limit the  spread of the infection.
The doctors were and are, still baffled as to what the exact cause of the infection was and are with high hopes that they removed all of the infected issue. She is being monitored around the clock and the doctors are taking it day by day. She is still in a very fragile state and the infection could come back at any time.
During each surgery they had to remove more and more skin and flesh from her chest and back area. Because she was non responsive to the antibiotics this was the only way to prevent the spread of the infection. Several areas of her skin is missing and she is going to need major skin grafting and the recovery will not be easy.

In addition to this battle for her life, which will indefinitely change life as she once knew, her insurance will not cover the procedures that will be needed once she is out of the woods. The cost incurred are already piling up.

There has been no time line set for how long she will be hospitalized, out of work and / or exactly what will be needed for her healing.

We are asking for any donation, no matter how small or large, it will be appreciated and will go towards her hospital bills, the future procedures as well as the day to day monetary expenses. Please help us in this campaign to support her healing and recovery.

With love and many thanks,

Lauren
