I am willing to bet that cancer has impacted every person that reads this. Unfortunately, my family is all too familiar with this horrible disease. We have seen it take the life of our father, as well as the lives of multiple aunts, uncles, and grandparents. Battles against cancer can be won, but seldom without taking a physical, emotional, and financial toll. With so much else to focus on, let's help ensure that Erin does not have to worry about the financial aspect.

Erin was diagnosed with follicular thyroid cancer in 2013. The cancer led to the removal of her thyroid and many follow up visits to ensure the cancer was not coming back. In May of 2016, lab results showed that the cancer was back and had spread to her trachea and esophagus. It was at that time her doctor decided it was in her best interest to continue treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, as they were more familiar with the required surgery and would give her the best chance at a successful fight. Unfortunately, MD Anderson is also out of network for her insurance.

Travel expenses and out-of-pocket medical costs are in the tens of thousands.

Erin is the loving mother of two beautiful little girls. Out of all of the difficulties associated with this surgery, she said spending time away from the girls has been one of the hardest. She is a caring sister and friend, and would donate her last dollar if a loved one was ever hit with this unfortunate situation.

We are in the process of putting together raffle prizes. In addition to donating to a great cause, you will receive one entry into the drawing for every $20 donated. You are still welcome to submit donations anonymously if you prefer, but to be in the drawing you must leave your email address on the donation screen. We will update this page with the prizes soon. Please check back often.

Thank you for your time and your consideration in donating.

Latest radiation update from Erin: One week from today radiation starts. I fly down to Houston on Monday. My radiation oncologist adjusted my treatment so that radiation will be focused on my trachea and esophagus, so I should avoid some of the unpleasant side effects, but I will not avoid them all. The main one they are concerned about is swelling to the point that it would prevent me from eating and even breathing. If it is severe, I could end up with a feeding tube or a temporary tracheotomy tube. He also adjusted the duration of treatment to 6 1/2 weeks, so I will stay in Houston until March 3rd. Travel is not advised once side effects start, so I probably won't make it home more than once during that time - for Hadley's birthday. It will be the longest I've been away from the girls and Patrick Choudoir. As much as I will need support during this time, sometimes those fighting from home get forgotten. Please make sure to keep Patrick and the girls in your thoughts and call or visit them if you can. This time away will be hard on all of us. Please help me by praying that time goes by quickly!!! ❤

Treatment update from Erin: Doctors have recommended external beam radiation treatment. They have made this decision based on the fact that the tumor is very aggressive and they believe that it will, at some point, come back. Their hope is that radiation will keep it at bay as long as possible. This treatment will be done in Houston as they are the leading head/neck radiation facility in the United States. Unfortunately, radiation treatment is 5 days a week for 6 weeks. This means I will be in Houston for 6 weeks starting in January. This will be a long, difficult time away from my family and friends. I want to thank everyone who has kept me in their thoughts and prayers.

Update: I was released from the hospital on Monday to recover in the hotel until Saturday when we are scheduled to return home. I'm feeling well, but very tired and having some minor breathing issues; both of which should get better with time. I will be meeting with my doctor on Friday to discuss what other treatment methods he will recommend and what follow up visits I will need to come back for. We are anticipating either radioactive iodine or external beam radiation therapy; both of which will need to be done in Houston. We are very thankful for the support we have received during this time and we are looking forward to being home and seeing our family and friends in a few days.

I'm praying for your Erin. Thank you for posting on Facebook...your messages are so inspiring and remind me daily that there is always another way to look at the negatives in life. You are a true inspiration to so many! Stay strong!!! I know I am just your "realtor friend", but if there is anything that I can do to help, please let me know. Seriously.... if you are ever in a bind with the girls, or need someone to check on the house, or whatever! XOXO - Danielle
