I started this campaign on behalf of one of my best friends, Erika.
Some of you know that she has been dealing with sciatica pain since May. While the pain caused great discomfort, she was able to still function in day to day life.
In August the pain became much more intense, to the point where she started to seek out medical help. After many doctor visits, PT sessions and emergency visits she finally got a referral for an MRI and epidural.
She has spent every day all day in a lot of pain, even on meds, and had to start using a cane to assist in getting around. Even with the cane walking is still extremely painful and she can’t get very far.
As many of you know, Erika is self employed meaning she hasn’t been able to take time off work, and on top of that, her profession as a dog walker means that she is on her feet and on the move for most of her work day.
The MRI showed that she has a herniated disk that’s pressing onto her nerve which is causing this intense non stop pain.
She has to rely on her partner for help with almost everything, even basic tasks.
Doctors determined that she needs surgery, which is set for the morning of October 30th. While the incision should heal in two weeks; she is not able to safely go back to work for 2 months because of the physical nature of her work.
Again, since she is self employed, this means that she does not have PTO or sick leave, and will be essentially without income for 2 months while she recovers, but will still have bills to pay (including vet bills for her dearly beloved, elderly pup who has spinal issues of his own).
I decided to start this campaign for her (since she is too stubborn to ever ask for help on her own) to raise funds for her to cover her living expenses during this time.
If you know Erika, you know what an amazing friend she is. She would help you in a second if you needed it, and probably already has at some point or another. Let's help our girl get through this recovery without the added stress of having to make ends meet.
