Eric Manuel... approachable, talkative, encouraging, kind, welcoming, funny, gentleman, inspiring, polite, full of life, optimistic, protective, faithful, loving... these are just a few of the words I have seen friends and family use to describe Eric over the last month!
Eric graduated from Berkner High School in 1985. He attended the University of North Texas and graduated with a Bachelors degree in Applied Arts and Sciences and Applied Technology and Performance Improvement. He completed his masters in educational leadership in 2012. He has three incredible rambunctious boys ages 15, 10 and 8. He absolutely loves teaching! He believes we should not discount the future generations and what they are capable of doing for this country! He asks us all to believe in them!
What many of you may or may not know is that Eric was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in September 2017. Along with the never ending support of family, friends and his faith in God above, he has been fighting an incredible battle! He started chemotherapy in October 2017. Unfortunately the repeat CT scans and MRI's continued to show progression of the disease. The cancer had spread to his liver and lungs. After continued treatment and pushing forward he lost his vision. It was found that he had progression to the lymph nodes and brain. Chemotherapy was stopped and radiation began on the brain tumors which thankfully gave him his vision back however there were more complications with spreading to the heart and bones. As if this were not enough he also is a diabetic which complicates things ten fold. A little over a week ago the doctors told him no further treatment can be done and he was placed on hospice care.
As you can imagine, with a teachers salary, the medical bills have been astronomical! He has long term disability which will not even start until June 2018. He is in desperate need of our help! He has a mortgage payment, utilities and medical bills that have to be taken care of! Not to mention three children that he would like to know could possibly have a higher education at some point in the future. Any amount of money that any of you could provide would be greatly appreciated!
Our dear friend is sleeping most of the time and not eating much but he can hear us when we visit and I sure would love to be able to tell him that this is one thing he does not need to worry about!
