Erase Renton School Lunch Debt!
Many children depend on a nutritious lunch to help them through their school day. Per the 2015-16 report by Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction for Washington State, 51.8% of Renton School District students are on free or reduced-price meals (Report). This is based on parents filling out meal applications. If a child is unable to pay for their meal, a debt has started. Families will receive an invoice from the school district to pay the debt.
RECENT MEDIA COVERAGE:
Lately you may have read in the media about "lunch shaming."
Seattle Times: http://www.seattletimes.com/nation-world/children-shamed-so-parents-will-pay-the-school-lunch-bill/
It is an awful thing and it should not be happening. Children need to eat regardless if they have money or not.
As of May 17, 2017, the total school lunch debt for Renton School District is $18,000. My goal is to help pay off the school lunch debt for the entire Renton School District.
Lets help the children get the nutritious meals that they need the most!
WHY THIS CAMPAIGN IS PERSONAL:
After successfully raising enough money for the Seattle Public Schools district (CBS News Story), I am trying to help ease the burden of the Renton families and make sure these children get to eat a nutritious meal each day at school. I used to look forward to school lunches each day. I am sure these children feel the same!
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
Please donate if you can. If you are unable to donate, please help share this great campaign! Thank you for your kindness and generosity!
Now, it's time to go big... really big. I'd like to take this opportunity to share a newly launched campaign with you. Our dream is to erase the lunch debt in the entire state of Washington! Together, I know we can help kids focus on education rather than lunch money and bring hope to the students of Washington State.

Let's do this!
First off, thank you so much for your contribution! Your generosity has helped reduce the student lunch debt in the Renton School District. Together, we haven't just reduced lunch debt, we have helped reduce lunch shaming and added hope the life of a child (and their family). We are so proud of what our community has come together to do!
On Friday August 25th, from 7-9:00pm, Christina Medawar (Acting Principal Flute, Houston Grand Opera) is hosting "A Night of Music for LunchDebt.org" to celebrate the accomplishments of our community, in addition to launching a statewide campaign to eliminate all lunch debt in the state of Washington. The night will include check presentations to the Seattle, Tacoma, and Spokane school districts, as well as chamber music by Christina Medawar and members of the Seattle Symphony.
