Erase overdue lunches!

Donation protected
I was a student at Cooper Elementary from Kindergarten all the way to 5th grade. The school and its teachers have had a profound impact on my life. The teachers at Cooper supported my family when my mother was working there as a teacher's aid fighting breast cancer and helped us through financial hardships when my mother was a single parent taking care of four kids. Currently, there is a negative balance of $4707.38 on the lunch accounts of all the students attending there. I read an article the other day about a lady who paid off all the overdue accounts at a school and I was inspired. Unfortunately, I don't have the means to pay this all off on my own. And paying off just some is not good enough for me! So I'm hoping to get the whole community involved in this project. Thank you for considering, anything you can give will help. I will present the school with a check for any and all donations I collect.
According to no kid hungry.com, "48.8 million Americans—including 13 million children— live in households that lack the means to get enough nutritious food on a regular basis. As a result, they struggle with hunger at some time during the year." Imagine, how hard it must be to focus on your schoolwork when you haven't eaten a good meal. While schools provide free or reduced lunches for families that qualify, for those who don't, when their accounts go into the negative they are given a free lunch. Just because a family does not qualify for free or reduced does not mean they can afford it. Also, the free lunches are typically not as substantial as what is offered to paying students. When my mother was a teacher the children were given only a bowl of soup. Not only is this embarrassing for the child, but if they haven't been given a proper meal at home then they are basically going the whole day hungry. It effects their focus, energy, motivation and self esteem. Well I think we can do better for these kids!! Whether you are a Cooper Elementary School alumni or just a citizen who wants to make a difference, lets show these kids that we care. Let's give these parents a fresh start and an ability to use that money for other bills. Let's make a difference!! After all, these children are our future!! :)
