Erase Alief ISD Lunch Debt

$6,630 of $6,500 goal

For many children, school lunches are the most nutritious meal they'll receive in a day. Currently, 85% of students in the Alief district qualify for free or reduced cost meals. If a child's family is unable to pay for their meal, a debt is accrued. These children are then offered an alternate meal of a cold cheese sandwich and milk, a standard procedure for most districts in the Houston area, until the debt is paid off.

Please join me in helping to ease the burden of these families and ensuring these kids get a full meal each day. It is a small, but meaningful, gift we can offer to our community and local public schools. As a former Alief ISD student, my family also relied on reduced price meals. Many of you reading this may have too, and if not, you probably had a friend you lent money to so they could get something to eat that day. Most of us know, learning is very difficult when you're hungry.

As of February, the entire Alief district lunch debt is $3,759.14. Please help if you can, and if you are unable to donate, that's okay! Just please share!

If we exceed this amount, the remaining balance will go to Crosby ISD. In this district, children with a lunch debt can be cut off from meals, including the alternate meal, until the debt is paid. Their current district debt is close to $1,186. Let's make sure no child goes hungry.

Thank you for your kindness and generosity.

“Those of us who are warm and dry and safe and well fed must show up for those who are cold and wet and endangered and hungry. That’s a rule of life. Every ethical and religious and spiritual tradition in the world agrees on that rule.”   -E.G.

The checks have been delivered!!
Alief ISD received a check for $3,472.75, their district total as of yesterday. Crosby ISD received a check for $1,167.54, their district total as of yesterday.
We have a leftover balance of $341 that will go toward deserving seniors in Alief to help them graduate.
Please feel free to donate if you'd like to help our seniors get their diplomas! These hardworking seniors are being identified by school counselors as students who need some financial assistance to pay off any outstanding debts that may prevent them from graduating, so let's keep this going!
Thank you all again for your support and generosity, you all made this possible. Around 3,000 students will benefit from this fundraiser!

I've updated our goal to try and build a reserve for senior students who have debts that may prevent them from graduating. Alief ISD high school counselors are working to identify deserving, hardworking students whose families are struggling financially. We want to make sure they get that diploma in their hands!
On a side note, please remember gofundme does take out a fee, as all fundraising sites do, so the total amount available at this time is just over $4800, almost the exact amount needed to pay off the lunch debts! So please, keep sharing, keep donating! You guys are making a huge impact on thousands of children and I can't thank you enough!

To all the loving supporters of this campaign, we have surpassed the goal!! I can't possibly express how grateful I am to all of you for your support. In the Alief district alone, this will pay off the debts of nearly 2,500 students. Donations will continue to be accepted to hopefully build a surplus that will benefit even more students, particularly seniors who may have debts preventing them from graduating. Thank you all so much for your kindness and generosity, we couldn't have done it without you ❤

Hello everyone!
We have almost reached our goal!! I couldn't be more thankful for the people who have gotten involved with this fundraiser! I am forever grateful.
In an effort to be as transparent as possible, I want to make a few things clear in case anyone has any questions.
My name is Ashley and I am a former student of Alief ISD. I was motivated to help support our public school students and felt ensuring nutritious meals was a good start! As stated previously, the money raised will first go to Alief ISD to pay off their student's lunch debt, with the remaining amount going toward Crosby ISD student's lunch debt. If we happen to have a surplus, it will go toward senior student debts that would prevent them from graduating.
I am working directly with the Director of Nutrition Services in both school districts, as well as their Accounting departments. When the funds are ready to be disbursed, I will be presenting a check to each district along with allocation forms that are very specific as to how the money will be spent.
I will post updates and photos as we go! Thank you again for all of your kindness and generosity.

Sincerely,
Ashley

Hey Ashley, I want to start this initiative for Lamar cisd as well. Can I use the information for describing the cause as well? Of course with LCISD stats. Thanks so much for inspiring others to do the same.

I am friends with your grandmother Jane. This is a wonderful thing that you are doing. I am a long time teacher (preschool) and it is a terrible thing when children go hungry. They cannot learn under those conditions. Good for you doing this for them. Kathy G.
