Epilepsy Research

Hi everyone, my name is Bridget Brown. I am 17 and I have Epilepsy. My freshman year of high school I had my first seizure (or so we think) at my friends house. They called 911 and I was sent to the hospital. We weren’t told that I had epilepsy or anything, so from there I was sent home without any sort of testing. I was fine for about a year and then one morning I was taking a shower and the next thing I know I’m in the hospital. I had a bad seizure in my shower and that’s when I got sent for an EEG and testing. The doctors had confirmed that I had Epilepsy and from there on I have struggled with it everyday. After my second seizure I thought everything was going good, I was cleared to get my license and I felt like a normal person again, until one day I had woken up from a nap and jumped into my car to go somewhere. When I left my house I started seizing and crashed into a neighbors house. It was the worst incident I have had so far, I had two seizures back to back and the paramedics had to give me medicine to make me stop seizing. This seizure made me come to terms with what is going on with me. I had always blown it off and denied that I had Epilepsy, but now I know it’s something I have to deal with everyday and that something could happen at any given minute. I may not have big seizures everyday but I do have some in my sleep and I have multiple quick ones everyday. Epilepsy is one of the worst things someone could be diagnosed with. It has personally taken away so many things from me and I hate it. I hate going for testing and having to switch medications because we can’t find the right one. I hate having a little thought in the back of my head that I could drop at any given minute and start seizing. I hate it for everyone that has to go through it too. This is my personal story and I wanted to share it with everyone so they can understand what Epileptic people go through and why I want to help raise money for Epilepsy Research.
