Experience Mission Trip

I've always been a fan of change, fast-paced busy days and adventure. I’m guessing if you’ve taken the time to read through my blog or if you’ve ever had a conversation with me that you’ve probably picked up on my constant desire for all things adventure.

I’ve never been a fan of pausing, staying in one spot and just “being…” However, the last few months I’ve felt a tug… something inside of me urging me to slow down, to embrace free days and empty afternoons. What a challenge! As someone who enjoys being busy or maybe I should say, beyond busy, slowing things down has been a struggle.

As the end of summer approached I became excited for my upcoming semester and how I would quickly be able to get back to my “normal” schedule of 60 hr. work weeks, full time studies, social events and of course the basics like balancing eating and sleeping. I even posted my excitement of finishing my last year of school, “Today is my last first day of school!” on Facebook.

Well, it turns out –I was wrong. Not only was it not my “last first day of school” but I’ve decided that living the way I am as the “Queen of Busyness” isn’t meaningful- in-fact it’s actually quite empty. Because of this, I have been praying for opportunities to slow down, to adventure and to serve God in a different way than I have before. It's because of this tug that I’ve decided to change directions... to put school, my job, my life on hold.

“WHAT?!” you ask, “But you only have one semester left!” "You have great jobs!" "You like where you live!"...

I know. Trust me, I know.

God is calling me to pause, to slow down and to follow his advice, Psalms 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God.” –Oh, yeah. Easier said than done for a busy-bee like me.

As I prayed about my decision to slow things down, I decided to pursue working with Experience Mission (the organization that I previously worked with on the Navajo Reservation last summer.)

Experience Mission is a non-profit organization that places leaders in countries and communities around the world, to invest, empower and bring dignity to the individuals and communities where mission teams are working. I am passionate about working for EM because of their desire to be the hands and feet of God, showing through actions and relationship the love of Jesus.

I am beyond excited to announce that in January I will be moving all of my possession back to Oregon in preparation for my next grand adventure: Working with EM to lead a team of 12-15 individuals to live, serve and be impacted by the communities in Jamaica, Haiti and Belize. This six month “Immersion” trip is an opportunity for me to continue working on my leadership skills while also serving in communities that have needs for the things that most of us take completely for granted. I am excited to be stretched, challenged and embraced by these other cultures, all while choosing to “just be.”

As I prepare for this next season in my life, I would love to ask for your prayers and support- I am excited to come back from this adventure with a new passion for loving people and serving God better.

*If you are interested in helping me financially- I am currently in need of travel supplies and immunizations. I am hoping to raise $2,500 to cover the cost of these items.

*If you are interested in supporting me through prayer - I would love to have your email address so I can send you updates, prayer requests and stories from my experience!

I have no idea what the next six months hold for me but I trust that this adventure is something I am meant to be a part of.

-Don't fret- I'll blow back to Colorado in July where I have plans to finish my Masters degree and move forward with my career in non-profit ministry work.
