The people of Congo are suffering from extreme poverty, disease and lack of security. Congo's pristine wildlife and rainforests are also suffering and are under attack. People and gorillas in Congo share one precious lifeline, which is the rainforest. For gorillas it is their home, for people, it is their means of survival. They need trees, plants and land to provide for their children. The forests are being cleared fast, while people and gorillas are vanishing. They are not enemies, but they are both fighting to survive. There is only one sustainable solution: 1) better support park rangers who risk their lives to protect gorillas and live on $1 a day and b) provide the people with various alternatives that will enable them to survive without harming the forest and the gorillas: tree planting, agricultural projects, nutrition programs and education. This is the only way.


Half the children in Congo are malnourished. Tens of thousands die each year. Millions suffer from chronic illness, are stunted (impaired growth and development) and fail academically. This is a catastrophe, but there is an answer: Spirulina - the most nutritious food nature has to offer and the best solution to malnutrition. Spirulina also has the lowest impact on the environment and growing it does not threaten the gorillas and their forests. We are growing it locally in Congo and it has already saved many lives. It costs only $100 to provide a malnourished child with a year's supply of spirulina, additional food staples and medical support. It costs only $50 to support a park ranger for one month so that he can provide for his children.
