Classroom in Need

Hi! This is Joanne and I am about to start my 16th year as a NYC public school teacher.  I have learned a lot during these years but one of the biggest lessons I have learned is how to make do with the little that I have.  For the past 13 years I have been working at a Title I school which means that we service students who are most at risk for failing in school, including children and youth experiencing homelessness. As a public school we do recieve government funding but this funding is not enough to meet all of the needs of individual classrooms.   I teach an inclusive kindergarten class which means that about half of my students receive special education services for a variety of needs such as learning & speech delays, physical & occupational therapy needs as well as behavioral needs.  My co-teacher and I work extremely hard to create a learning environment that meets the individual needs of all of the learners in our class.  
Unfortunately our resources are very limited.  In order for us to be able to give our students the best opportunities available to succeed, we are asking for your help.  There are some items in particular that we have been dreaming about for our students.  At this time we have three particular items that we are trying to fundraise for.  Any additional money that is collected will go directly to other supplies for our students, in particular items that are necessary for our students with sensory integration needs.

It takes a village to raise and educate a child.  I'm hoping that we can build a village that will help me educate a classroom of children.
