EmmyLou's Brain Surgery/Bartley Family Fund

EmmyLou Bartley was born March 11 2015, she suffered a Peri- Natal (before birth) ischemic stroke specifically a Left MCA stroke and a Right Parietal Stroke on the left side of her brain leaving her with right side hemi-paresis. She was placed on therapeutic Hypothermia at birth and spent almost three weeks in the NICU before she was able to come home. EmmyLou’s stroke affects at least half of her brain and when something like that occurs parts the parts of the brain that are damaged and undamaged will work and recuperate differently. In EmmyLou’s case that damage left her with some obstacles to overcome. Learning to do things that children with unaffected brains do like walking, eating, sitting, standing playing, learning, and seeing is done through extensive therapy with professionals like Occupational and Physical therapists, Vision specialists, Gastroenterologists, Neurologists and other numerous pediatric specialists. Since she has been home, with the help of her family and all of the specialists involved in her care. EmmyLou has made amazing strides overcoming the challenges that can come with the complications of a stroke like hers.
God couldn’t have chosen better parents for Emmy Lou and a better Family for her in her sisters Reese and Grace. Nick and Amanda work tirelessly and effortlessly to get EmmyLou the best care possible. Each time a challenge arises, Emmy Lou, her parents and siblings rise to the occasion and continue with grace, faith, and love. Never asking for anything more than love and prayers from friends and family.

A common complication of being a stroke survivor is seizures which EmmyLou has been afflicted with almost since birth. These seizures for a long time have been controlled by medication until very recently. In mid-October EmmyLou began having unexplained, almost constant seizures. As Nick and Amanda always do, they went to the right people. After multiple tests and evaluations, it was determined that EmmyLou has Epileptic Encephalopathy and the best course of action to treat this unique challenge will be to perform a functional hemispherectomy of the part of her brain not working. With out the surgery the seizures will continue and it will not only hinder her development and growth but also the working parts of her brain.

A surgery like this will be complicated and extensive. EmmyLou needs all of us in her corner supporting her and parents and family through this time. Here’s how everyone can help - we would like to take some of the burden of financial expenses off the Bartley family by raising enough money to help them through the surgical process and recovery time.

When you find your tribe, you love them hard. These are our people. We want to thank you for reading this and taking the time to consider donating to our friends. Anything you can offer to help us reach our goal is appreciated.
