Miss Emma's Treatment in Denver

When 8 year old Emma made multiple attempts to break her own leg and ankle, including throwing herself down stairs and dropping a huge boulder on her body, her mother Daleth knew medical intervention was needed. Emma had been searching Google on how to hurt herself, made multiple attempts to do so, and to hurt others. She was not able to stay in her classroom or receive any schooling. Many weeks had passed in which her teacher had needed to call her mother, or to request she come get her. Emma's family was at their wits' end. Suicide attempts are not signs of a normal autism kid having a fit.

She needed to get help from the Doctors at Children’s Hospital in Denver. Last month, they made 3 separate trips to the Children’s Hospital Emergency room, trying to get Emma into an in-patient psychiatric program for treatment. After nearly 24 hours total spent at the Emergency Department on suicide watch, Emma was admitted to the Neuropsychiatry Special Care inpatient unit. She spent 8 days total living at the hospital.

Emma was diagnosed with Austim, Anxiety, and Depression at an early age

Emma is now in the outpatient program, which will help her and the family cope with her dangerous state. This 3-5 week program involves mandatory participation Monday-Friday 8:30am-2:30pm . Her mother cannot work during this time, and that sucks big time, as she will obviously not have her income. They also have to drive 160 miles daily, and of course, must eat while up there. The good news is that Daleth’s employer will hold her job until Emma’s treatment is done.

Unfortunately, the doctors will not allow her to stay at any other house, and they must drive home 1.5 hours every night to try to recreate their “normal” home life. This is the only treatment location in a 5 state radius.

Daily commute for an unhappy little girl and a mom

Daleth has an autism blog that extensively describes Emma, and Emma's struggle. She focuses on what her daughter needs, and rarely talks about herself. So I'm going to take a moment to tell you about Daleth...

Emma's Mom = Superhero

Daleth has struggled as a single mom, raising her son and her daughter. She earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees at the top of her class while raising her special needs daughter Emma, and taking care of her family. At times she even worked a full time job, yet her college was 60 miles away from home. She has triumphed over every challenge life has thrown her. This is the first time she’s asked for help. Daleth is one of the most dedicated, loving mothers around. After only two years in her field, she put aside her dream job to care for Emma. Emma’s progress is slow, but with the help of this outpatient treatment, life may be a bit more sane for Miss Emma and her family.

Please donate to help Emma get the care she needs. If you cannot, please share our message.  It is in these moments that we see people come together to support the people we care for.

THANK YOU SO MUCH,
