On October 27, 2018, an armed assailant entered the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and massacred 11 innocent worshipers,  He wounded another 10 people, including 4 police officers.
Jews across the world are being targeted in our places of worship, and yet many synagogues are unprepared.  When a horrific attack occurs, bystanders are the only people in a position to provide immediate assistance.
The attacker entered the Tree of Life Synagogue at 9:50am.  The first casualties were only evacuated at 10:29, nearly 40 minutes later.

The objective in an active shooter situation is to act quickly to save lives.  To do this, we must respond to the wounded and stop the bleeding as fast as possible.

Research has shown that if we can compress the time between the wounding and the control of serious bleeding, we can reduce the chance of death by more than 50%[1].

We are raising money to obtain Bleeding Control Kits and relevant training to for synagogues in the Washington DC area. Comparable to public-access AEDs, these kits are placed in prominent places so that they are readily accessible should they ever be needed.  Our hope is that these kits and associated training will save lives in case of another attack, and will also empower our community members to be active bystanders as they go about their daily routines.

We plan to meet with each synagogue to select the appropriate size and quantity of kits for their needs, and to provide training to staff and interested members of the congregation.
