Emergency Medical Expenses

On Wednesday, September 28th, 2016, we were caring for our 16 month old grandson, Truxton, while his parents were out of the country. That night, while headed home, Truxton went in to a seizure while sitting in his car seat. As we drove towards the hospital, we saw the Payson Fire Department pulling in to the fire station. We pulled over and they began working on him immediately. An ambulance was called to take Truxton to the hospital. At the hospital, the medical team quickly worked on him. We were afraid, but felt things would be okay, because he was being treated. To our horror, the doctor in charge said, "Get the helicopter." They then proceeded to intubate Truxton. The doctor told us that they had done everything they could and they needed to get him to Primary Children's Medical Center as soon as possible. 

Febrile seizures are common in toddlers Truxton's age, but they usually last only a minute or two. Truxton had never had one before and his seizure lasted for over an hour! Truxton was flown to Primary Children's Medical Center where he was in the hospital for 3 days while he struggled to overcome the seizure and all the medications the doctors pumped into him, to try and get the seizure to stop. 

Truxton was a happy, smart little boy before this happened. He is still healing, but unfortunately, it appears that he has some brain damage. It remains to be seen how fully he will recover. With an ambulance ride, 2 emergency room visits, an emergency helicopter evac and 3 days in the hospital, the bills are racking up quickly. Medical care will be on-going. We are trying to help our son with his out-of-pocket expenses.  We appreciate your donations.
