Emergency fund - Osilius

Donation protected
As a teacher, it's never good to have favorite students. While I know this to be a fact, sometimes kids have a way of making you smile more often than not, even on the particularly hard days. For me, that student is Osilius.

Osilius is an incredible student, sister, daughter, friend, and human being. She always has her pencil ready to go, her hand in the air to offer an answer to my questions, and a hug for her peers that need it most. As a 14 year old, I've seen her give advice to kids much older than herself and proves time and time again that she knows no stranger. She has also been forced to make decisions usually reserved for adults at a young age and was forced to grow up way beyond her time. While I have nothing but admiration and respect for her, sometimes it's hard to watch her childhood fade away with each day.

Recently, her brother was taken to the hospital for an emergency cancer treatment that lasted several days. While this was unexpected, Osilius remained composed. Even though she kept up a brave face, she told me about how scared she felt and how her family is living in such deep poverty that she didn't have the resources to visit her family in the hospital. She was essentially living on her own and isolated from her family in a time where support was all she needed. After taking care of the immediate needs, our school was able to provide transportation and an emergency supply of food for the immediate future.

The following week, Osilius was absent. While concern was building, she joyfully announced that her brother was clear to leave the hospital and come back home the following week! Even though she was incredibly relieved, she also faced the financial realities that hit. Currently, Osilius and her family are choosing between rent, electricity, and food because of hospital bills and limited income. This is something no child should have to face, but Osilius is no ordinary child. Through the tears, she told me that she would find a way to fix this for herself and her family.

As brave as she is, I know that Osilius could use a little help. If you are able, please consider donating so that we can help Osilius and her family pay for rent and groceries for the immediate future until we can work together to find a more sustainable solution. If you can't, please share this with your friends and family. Any small amount is hugely appreciated, and for a kid as incredible as Osilius, this is an effort that is truly worthwhile.

If you have any questions at all, please reach out! Thank you!
