Elyse Thompson (from Kingston, Ontario) was traveling in Peru when she was involved in a horrible accident. She was in a head-on collision with an 18-wheeler that was traveling in the wrong lane. She had no choice to swerve away as there was a cliff with no guard rail on the side of the road.
Current diagnosis:
-Fractured vertebrae in her back;
-Five broken ribs, two are dangerously close to her heart and lungs so she is unable to move for fear that they will puncture her organs;
-Ruptured spleen; and
-Internal bleeding.
Elyse is alive and her vitals are normal but has a long road to recovery ahead of her. She is currently in a hospital in Peru but we are hoping to get her air ambulanced back home ASAP.

Elyse is still stuck in Peru and has taken a turn for the worse. Her internal bleeding has gotten worse and they have sent her into emergency surgery to try to stop the bleeding and to remove her spleen.
May 22
Elyse had her surgery on her speed and they were able to stop the bleeding without removing it. She is recovering well. They found a lot of fluids in her lungs/chest/ribs so they just sent her in for another surgery to try to remove some of the fluids.
May 24
Elyse is allowed to eat solid foods now ! She has also been okay’ed by her doctors to be air lifted back to Canada with a doctor as long as there are no issues between now and Saturday. We are hoping that the insurance company is cooperative and helps us arrange a medivac and finds a hospital bed for her in Ontario where she will need surgery on her broken back. Great news !
