El sueño de ser Musico...

Hola!!  Yo soy Lorena Salas de Fiore, vivo en Valencia, Venezuela. Decidi comenzar esta campaña para mi  hijo mayor, Maurizio. El es un joven artista que siempre tuvo un amor por las humanidades. De su promocion de bachillerato, el fue el único que decidió estudiar música. Desafortunadamente, en nuestro país Venezuela, la música nunca ha sido una carrera muy apoyada por las universidades, siendo pocas las que ofrecen cualquier tipo de título en la materia. Y encima de eso, para el tiempo en el que mi hijo se graduó de bachillerato, el gobierno de Venezuela comenzó a implementar un sistema corrupto para controlar las admisiones universitarias, que significaba que ya tus buenas notas o aptitudes no eran lo más importante en tu aplicación. Dado el caso, mi hijo decidió buscar universidades en USA con títulos en Música que dieran becas a estudiantes internacionales, y tras enviar videos de audición a varias escuelas, eventualmente fue otorgado con una beca del 70% de Adelphi University en Long Island, NY. Siendo su madre, cómo podía decirle que no fuera? Esto se trataba de su futuro, que en Venezuela pintaba cada vez menos prometedor. Así que en Enero de 2015, comenzamos esta loca aventura de intentar apoyar a nuestro hijo en sus estudios en USA, aún cuando sabíamos que la situación económica en Venezuela se dirigía en la peor dirección en la que alguna vez se había dirigido. Durante el tiempo que estuvo en Adelphi University, fuimos capaces de alcanzar los costos de matrícula y vivienda trabajando juntos mi esposo, mi hijo y yo, y parecía que todo podría funcionar. Sin embargo, el sueño de mi hijo siempre había sido asistir a Berklee College of Music en Boston, que es una de las mejores escuelas de música del mundo, y en Febrero de 2016 audicionó y fue aceptado con una beca del 75%. Nunca olvidaré cuando nos llamó entusiasmado a contarnos de esta increíble oportunidad, y fue ahí cuando mi esposo y yo decidimos apoyarlo en seguir su sueño de asistir a esta prestigiosa escuela. Maurizio ya lleva estudiando en Berklee poco más de un año, y tomando ventaja de los créditos transferidos de Adelphi University y su propia habilidad de aprobar por examen ciertas clases requeridas, se encuentra ahora en el último año de la carrera de Jazz Composition (Composición de Jazz). Desafortunadamente, mi esposo y yo nos encontramos en el medio del colapso económico de Venezuela, y el objetivo que alguna vez se vio difícil pero posible, ahora se ve casi imposible por nuestros propios medios, lo que es inmensamente frustrante. Es por esta razón que escribo esta publicación, pues he aprendido que con la verdad se puede llegar a tocar el alma de las personas. El hecho de pedir ayuda no nos quita nada, es más, nos enseña a ser verdaderamente humildes y a ver el bien en las demás personas.  Los fondos recaudados aqui serán dirigidos a los costos de matrícula y vivienda para el último año de mi hijo en Berklee College of Music. Necesitamos cubrir estos gastos en 2018, que son aprox. $15,000.00. Siendo Boston una de las ciudades más caras de USA, y con la fallida economía de Venezuela comiéndonos los bolsillos, temo que nuestro esfuerzo no será suficiente de cubrir estos gastos. Pero estoy segura de que con su ayuda, podemos hacer de este sueño realidad, si todos los que leen esta publicación nos ayuda de cualquier forma que puedan, este objetivo puede lograrse y mi hijo puede caminar con orgullo hacia su futuro como un artista exitoso. Unfortunately, in our home country of Venezuela, music has never been a career that was greatly supported by universities, with only a few of them offering any sort of degree in the field. And on top of that, by the time my son graduated high school, the government of Venezuela began implementing a corrupt system for controlling college admissions throughout the entire country, which meant that having the best grades and aptitudes was no longer the most important factor in your college application. Therefore, my son decided to search for universities in the USA with degrees in Music which granted scholarships to international students, and after submitting audition videos to a number of schools, he was granted a 70% scholarship from Adelphi University in Long Island, NY. As a mother, how could I tell him not to go? This was about his future, which in Venezuela was less than promising. So in January of 2015, we began this crazy adventure of trying to support our son in studying in the USA, even though we knew that the economic situation in Venezuela was heading in the worst direction it had ever gone. For the time he was in Adelphi University, we were able to meet the costs of tuition and living by working together between my husband, my son and I, and the plan seemed to make sense. However, my son’s dream had always been to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, which is arguably one of the best music schools in the world, and in February of 2016 he auditioned and was accepted with a 75% scholarship. I will never forget when he gave us the phone call and told us about this amazing opportunity, and my husband and I decided that we needed to support him in following his dream of attending this prestigious school. Maurizio has now been studying at Berklee for a little over a year, and taking advantage of the transfer credits he submitted from Adelphi University and his own ability to test out of required classes, he is now in the final year of the Jazz Composition degree. However, my husband and I find ourselves in the midst of Venezuela’s collapsing economy, and the goal which once seemed tough but reachable, is currently almost impossible by our own efforts, which is immensely frustrating. It is for this reason that I write this post, for I have learned that the truth is the only thing that can reach a person’s soul. To ask for help does not take anything away from us, but it teaches us to be truly humble and to find the good in others. The funds gathered here will be directed towards covering the tuition  and housing expenses of my son's last year in Berklee College of Music.  We need to cover these expenses in 2018, which add up to approx. $15,000.00. Being Boston one of the most expensive cities in USA, and the failing economy of our home country eating out of our pockets, I fear that our conjoined effort will not be enough to cover these costs. But I am certain that with your help, we can make this dream come true, if everyone that reads this post helps us in whatever way they can, this goal can be reached and my son can walk proudly towards his future as a successful artist.
