Elmira Station 4 Restoration

This page has been set up assist in the restoration Elmira Station 4 on Maxwell Pl. in Elmira, NY.  The station opened in March 1900 and was staffed until its closure in the 1980's. Since then, it has fallen into disrepair and is on the verge of becoming irrepairable and a public hazard. The men and women of the Elmira Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 709 have partnered with the City of Elmira to help restore and revitalize a part of Elmira's history. The City of Elmira has applied for a grant to help bring the station back to its original glory. The grant is a 75/25 match meaning the grant will pay for 75% of the work and materials, with the other 25% coming from any source. Elmira Professional Firefighters have agreed to help with the 25% in the form of fundraising and donated labor. This grant will help restore the exterior of the building to include the brick, roof, doors, windows and various other exterior features that need repairing or replacement. The grant will also go towards fixing and reinforcing the second floor that has extensive damage from years of neglect. The 25% match will consist of donated labor from the men and women of Elmira Professional Firefighters as well as fundraisers and donations from everyday people like all of us. The Elmira Professional Firefighters are very passionate about this project and we are confident with your help and our passion, we can get Station 4 back to the way it was when it opened in 1900.
