Let’s Help Ellen Peers Kick Cancer to the Curb!

Hello all,

Ellen Peers and her husband John both grew up in Valley Stream, NY they recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary . They are parents to 4 beautiful children Kayla, Liam, Luke and Colleen and live in the wonderful Long Beach community. Ellen has cared for countless children throughout Long Beach and surrounding communities through her work in child care and her involvement with both the school PTA and parish education at St. Ignatius Martyr. She has served as a mother figure to so many children in so many communities and has impacted countless lives.

In November 2016, Ellen’s world was flipped upside down. She was rushed to the hospital one night with extreme head pain. After consulting doctors in the ER and various tests, it was discovered that she had a 4.5cm tumor on the left side of her brain. After a successful removal surgery in December 2016, she was blessed to be home for Christmas, but that peace was short-lived. The week following Christmas, she was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM), a very rare and potent form of brain cancer. In the hours following the diagnosis, she was rushed to the hospital with blood clots in her lungs and legs. Following an emergency surgery, she was hospitalized again. After this hospital stint, her toughest tests were still ahead. She began daily chemotherapy and radiation treatments, but with the help of her supporting friends, family and neighbors, she has been in great spirits throughout this troubling time. After 2 months of treatment and countless hours of hard work rehabbing through occupational and physical therapy, she suffered a massive seizure that served as a huge setback on her road to recovery.

Throughout this meandering road, she has maintained a positive attitude and always has a smile on her face. She has continued to be a great mother and is very thankful for the many family members, friends and neighbors who have dropped off meals and driven her to the endless doctor’s appointments all over the New York metro area. While she is fighting the greatest challenge of her life, her strength has shown and she continues to fight this deadly disease.

Since the life-altering diagnosis, Ellen has not been able to work, and even with the assistance of health insurance, her medical bills and living expenses are accumulating rapidly. Having cancer is very costly. Expenses have become a major stress and distraction taking away from the focus on feeling healthy and regaining strength. We appreciate any amount you are willing to donate in helping Ellen with her battle with this deadly disease. Please keep Ellen in your prayers and spread the word. Asking for monetary assistance from loved ones is not an easy task. We have been truly blessed to have such tremendous support from family, friends and a great community. Please help Ellen battle against his terrible disease and show how much we love her, John, Kayla, Liam, Luke and Colleen. Together we can make a difference!

*In addition, we are organizing a benefit for those who would like to come out and show support for a great mom, wife, sister, aunt, and friend. Details will follow. We are also in need of some donated items for gift baskets for the benefit. You can also send us a private message and we will have details of the event for everyone shortly. Show your support in this fight by sharing and posting on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and all social media platforms.*

Thank you and God Bless!
