Help Eliza Taylor Build Her School
As you have probably noticed from my instagram, I have two beautiful god children living on the Island of Koh Tao, Thailand - Kasper and Pepper. Their parents, two of my best friends, moved there from Australia seeking inner and outer peace, stronger community and stronger values for their children to grow up with.
We noticed that Kasper's lovely Thai and Myanmar immigrant friends were slowly leaving the island, many without their parents, to go to school far away where they could get a better education at an affordable price. Most children would never be able to access anything above a basic Thai education, something that Myanmar immigrant children would never benefit from when they return home, where Thai is not spoken.
To cut a long story short, Claire and I decided we would attempt a Not for Profit School, that was run only to cover its own costs to keep the fees as low as possible. As we did the numbers we realised the more children that went to the school, the lower the school fees would go, and more children would have access to it. Most importantly - Families could stay together.
Two years later, the school has become a reality and the children are thriving. However, the space they rent together with a private kindergarten is being sold. The school can't afford to move. When I came to visit I could see the education standard was fantastic, but if we could acheive rent free land then resources like playground equipment, proper sized classrooms and flushing toilets would be attainable.
So this is where you step in...
My hope is that you and I together, can save Koh Tao International Primary. We can help to further develop the Not for Profit structure so that it can be replicated in other parts of the World like Thailand and Myanmar.
Any donation, no matter how big or small, will make a huge difference. We have a list of Thai and Burmese children waiting for the fees to lower so they can attend the school.
These kids really need us. Your contribution will mean the world to them and me.
Thank you Clexa Comic fans for this incredible donation to our school!!!
Here is the latest on major developments and decisions regarding the school...
We have had to renovate to expand our current building to make room for more children and thanks to your lovely donations and some Pinterest inspiration, we have managed to create a more stimulating environment in the playroom department! The children spend a lot of time in the playroom during wet season, so it is really important for everyone's sanity :)
We have also been able to pay extra rent to move Year 2 and Year 4 into a small bungalow that is close to our main building. This has allowed for more space during class times and less disruptions for older children.
As a result of these changes we have been able to take on more students, which was the aim, so we are eternally grateful!
Annual subscriptions to our online resources from the UK have been paid for with donation money as well as some general learning resources for both online learning and classroom necessities.
We do have two major activities taking place over the next month or so that are vital to our survival.
1. Finally putting down a large deposit on some land and signing a big scary contract for mortgage payments over the next 3 or 4 years.
2. Turning a larger house close to the school into 2 new classrooms while we await the next steps to build.
One other change I really have to mention is that the local community are starting to believe they will have a proper school on the island that caters to the needs of a large portion of the children on the island. Their understanding of the concept of 'Not For Profit' is growing and we are earning trust, respect and support.
I will update again soon, but for now, please keep sending your messages of love and support and thank you for sharing our journey with your friends and family. It is the power of positive thoughts and energy that has the true value for us all.
Claire & EJ
It is important we get the right land for the right price, as we need to have enough money to build.
We have also decided to purchase a large commercial playground for the school that can be used by local children out of school hours, as the island has been trying to build a park for years.
Who needs superheros when people like Eliza and Claire Exsist. From promoting body positivity to this amazing project you are truly an inspiration. Your love and support for the LGBT community has forever left a mark on all our hearts. We are with you Eliza ❤
EJT & friends: Thank you so much for sharing this with all of us! It is an honor to be able to help contribute to Koh Tao international primary. Most people take edcucation for granted, not realizing that families are not able to afford that luxury. It is heartbreaking to know that something so basic is a struggle for others to achieve. No child should have to leave their family to go to school, especially a school that may not help them 100% with the things they need, such as their own language. In 24 hours you have raised almost $50,000 , how amazing! I hope this money will help keep the school open and give the children more to thrive from. They all deserve it. EJT- thank you for allowing us all to see just how beautiful your heart truly is. You have inspired us all, not only from your acting but your stand on Body Positivity, (something I struggle with) LGBT rights, and now this. Thank you for being you. Claire: I wish you luck and strength, what you are doing is so amazing and selfless! Those children as well as their parents will love and thank you for all you are doing for them. Keep up the amazing work, you deserve all of this love and donations. Kimberlee

Looks like the @kohtaointernationalprimary instagram account has moved to @kohtaokids (https://www.instagram.com/kohtaokids/). Please correct me if I'm wrong about that - the link in the description leads to a 404 page.
