Elizabeth's Fight against Breast Cancer

If you haven't had the pleasure of meeting her yet, meet Elizabeth.  She is 20 years old, originally from south Georgia, but now living in sunny Florida.  She is the loving mother to her world, her light, and her reason for fighting, Jeremiah.  

Liz noticed a lump in her breast late last year.  She had a biopsy in November and was told it was benign.  The lump continued to grow so she had it removed at University of Florida Hospital in January.   This time it was obvious that something wasn't right.  Doctors struggled to identify what kind of cancer she was dealing with but in  late February she was diagnosed with Stage 2 Metaplastic Breast Cancer.  
 
Metaplastic Breast Cancer is a rare but aggressive type of breast cancer that has been recognized as a unique pathologic entity by the World Health Organization.  It shares many similarities with invasive ductal carcinoma and benign lesions on mammography, which further complicates the diagnosis. Treatment for metaplastic breast carcinoma is relatively unknown because of the rarity of the disease, but studies suggest that removal of the tumor and adjuvant radiation therapy has the greatest benefit.

The doctors at University of Florida Hospital are recommending a total mastectomy and reconstructive surgery with aggressive chemo every 2 weeks for 4 treatments and then every week for 12 weeks.  
Liz has an appointment at MD Anderson in Texas in a few weeks.  We have reached out to American Cancer Society and they are directing us to different foundations but the financial needs are for more immediate needs for transportation, hotel stays, and medical bills for scans, tests, etc. 

Elizabeth has unbelievable strength and optimism about beating this cancer.  She has been able to see and call out the silver lining every step of the way. (hello new boob job, what’s up sassy wig!) Please keep Elizabeth in your prayers and help lift some of the financial burden that comes with cancer. Every dime helps!
