Water Protectors Called North to Camp Makwa and Camp Turtle Island – Desperately Need Support and Funds!

Camp Makwa is a camp in opposition to Line 3 and is fully prepared to stand their ground and prevent the violation of the Earth that would be the Line 3 replacement project.  Camp Makwa, in Minnesota, is aiming to safeguard the water and air for all downstream recipients such as Wisconsin and Illinois.  They have put out a call for badly needed supplies and money.  I am going to collect donations, both monetary and physical, here in Elgin to deliver to Camp Makwa.

Mike Barr, who headed an Illinois contingent to Standing Rock late last year, and who helped immensely at Standing Rock, with your and our help, would like to travel out there ASAP but is waiting for a little while to get ready.  If I receive donations, or if you want me to pick something up, contact me, and I will pick it up, and if Mike had already left, I can arrange for shipping.  I will keep each and every donator up-to-date with when their donation was shipped and with whom.  Also, if you are going to go to Camp Makwa, please check in with me to see if there are donations that can be brought there that have been saved here.

Please consider if you can help the Water Protectors once again, this time in Minnesota against Enbridge, who is currently acting as enemy to the good people of the planet.  Mike particularly needs gas money to get down there and at least $100 for Tyvek for winter dwellings. There are several familiar faces from Standing Rock who are now at Camp Makwa and are prepared for the showdown with the pipeline building transgressors.  We are currently engaged in building and funding winter shelters and fortifying the good people who are camped there.

There have already been several arrests.  We must stand together and stand strong against the transgressors of the planet.

We are called once again to stand up and stop the unheard-of disaster that is the continued fossil fuel travesty.

This article is noteworthy; The tribal liaison for the MN Department of Commerce resigned in protest because of how bad the environmental review process was handled, after being sidelined following complaints from Enbridge to the governor's office.

We sincerely hope this can be resolved in a civilized manner!!!

Thank you, friends!

Previous Campaign:

As most of us know by know by now, the American Indians have joined together at Standing Rock and are putting up a tremendous fight against the anachronistic fossil fuel empire, the likes of which are unparalleled by any environmentalist efforts in the near present term.  Indigenous People, Justice Activists, Environmentalists, and Veterans have joined forces and together we represent one of the last hopes for humanity in the face of the threat of eventual complete obliteration of our water supply (if all of these pipeline projects are not stopped) and the continued blanket of carbon in our atmosphere leading to droughts, rising sea levels, famine, climate refugees, and global catastrophe (if all of these pipeline projects are not resisted against).

Mike Barr of Rockford, Illinois led a group of pipeline fighters from Illinois to North Dakota in December and successfully setup a tent in the Oceti Sakowin camp in which Water Protectors are living and continuing the fight.  However because Spring is approaching when a known flood will occur, and because of mounting threats from law enforcement, we need a return trip to help clean up camp and move some of the tents in the camp to higher ground to get everything possible out of the impending flood and to help with cleanup and relocation activities.  To aid Mike and his Environmentalist and Veteran friends in this effort, and for future pipeline fighting efforts, I have setup a fund and donation site in Elgin, Illinois for people to contribute money to cover costs of gasoline, firewood, propane, food, and other emergency supplies for the camps of pipeline fighters.  I am hoping that Illinois can join together and contribute to this extremely important cause.  Mike and additional Veterans and possibly Environmentalists as well from the area will also be travelling up there soon.  On their way there, they will stop in Elgin and pick up all accumulated supplies and money from me to bring to Standing Rock and help directly with this cause and those from Illinois who are helping.  This fund will continue for as long as the fight at Standing Rock continues and also for other pipeline fights that may come up in the future.  All of the funds contributed will go directly towards fighting anachronistic oil pipelines.

The powers that be must be made aware that we are serious about protecting the environment, our water supply, and the transition away from fossil fuels.  Until the powers that be who control the media and the laws seriously takes this on, we will be faced with indifferent, irresponsible capitalists who will continue to destroy our future for the sake of their short-term lifestyle, and the people will never be able to pull themselves out of fossil fuel dependence, and the very water that we depend on to live will become a scarcity and our lives will be ruined forever.  We must stop this from happening by standing with our Indigenous, Environmental, and Veteran brothers and sisters.  That is why I am asking you to contribute to our fund, when you can.  If you cannot contribute on-line, then please contact me (Paul Berland) to arrange for an in-person pick-up or drop-off of donations.

More Camp Mawka and Camp Turtle Island Funds and Supplies on Their Way

Today, January 4, 2018, I gave to Mike Barr the next round of donations including gloves and scarves and money to be delivered to Camp Makwa and Camp Turtle Island. I would like to say thank you to all the people who have been helping out. Mike is going to take the physical donations, divide them up for the 2 camps, and ship them in boxes to the 2 camps. The money he is going to send to Bill who is a member of Camp Mawka so they can continue their work and resistance to the pipelines.

Mike reports that the camp is still going strong: they are camped mainly in houses made of curved saplings and are keeping warm with stoves and propane heaters and dogs. He says they are being harassed by local police officers but they are continuing to hold their ground.

The camps have been organizing various non-violent resistance efforts against the pipelines. The most recent one that I heard about was a big protest with hundreds of people protesting the stockpiling of pipe parts for line 3 in yards in Cromwell, Minnesota in below zero weather even though the pipe isn’t even approved: https://www.unicornriot.ninja/2017/rally-against-line-3-minnesota-pipe-yards/

Mike is very low on funds and unable at this time to travel in person to the camps, and myself and others are also short of a time window in which to travel to these camps, but we hope to raise more funds and continue to support these efforts. You can always send money through this fund but can also send money directly to the camps. Right now they are trying to raise money to bail a brave activist out of jail in South Dakota. As I write this note, our brave water protector from the Illinois area Mike Barr is now at Camp Turtle Island. He has delivered some of the donations that we have gathered to them and the donations were extremely well received. He is now on his way with a friend to pick up some firewood and deliver to Camp Makwa. Thanks to all who contributed to this important and historic effort.

He is planning on staying a little while there and then eventually returning back to the Illinois area. He is planning a return trip in the Winter time frame as well. I will continue to accept donations for the brave water protectors who are taking a stand in Minnesota to be delivered with the next water protector from Illinois going to those camps.

Hi guys. I am deactivating this campaign for now. I really, really thank you guys and we really did a great wonderful job and those people in charge must feel pretty bad about themselves for doing what they've done. The fight continues. Maybe I will start a new campaign down the road. Peace, love, happiness.
