Elgin Illinois Water Protector Fund

Water Protectors Preparing for the Worst Hoping for the Best

The Elgin, Illinois Water Protector Fund has been helping out the Water Protectors for a couple of years now.  We are now working with Camps A Rising (campsarising.org) and still accepting donations of all types as well as monetary donations too.   The monetary donations go directly to the Water Protectors and the pipeline resistance camps.

We are now preparing for the worst but hoping for the best with regards to the Line 3 project that runs through and feeds pipelines through Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois, with additional flow all the way to Texas where probably at least half of the oil is sold to foreign markets.

Camp Makwa and Camp Turtle Island are our best hopes currently that are standing in opposition to Line 3.  They will stand their ground with our help and fight this pipeline until the very end, until the "black snake" is dead.  They still need supplies and money and reinforcements and we will continue to support.

Update: Mike Barr has just recently procured a large-sized trailer for Camps A Rising and donated thousands of dollars of his own camp equipment to the camps!  You can view a video of this on Facebook here:  https://m.facebook.com/groups/249048095557017?tsid=0.2793732339663011&source=result
I would love to reimburse him and continue to support him in his new job at Camps A Rising helping Water Protectors and camps that are specifically intended to stop the ridiculous, unnecessary, and extremely harmful fossil fuel infrastructure that we should have stopped a long time ago!

Previous Campaign:

As most of us know by know by now, the American Indians have joined together at Standing Rock and are putting up a tremendous fight against the anachronistic fossil fuel empire, the likes of which are unparalleled by any environmentalist efforts in the near present term.  Indigenous People, Justice Activists, Environmentalists, and Veterans have joined forces and together we represent one of the last hopes for humanity in the face of the threat of eventual complete obliteration of our water supply (if all of these pipeline projects are not stopped) and the continued blanket of carbon in our atmosphere leading to droughts, rising sea levels, famine, climate refugees, and global catastrophe (if all of these pipeline projects are not resisted against).

Mike Barr of Rockford, Illinois led a group of pipeline fighters from Illinois to North Dakota in December and successfully setup a tent in the Oceti Sakowin camp in which Water Protectors are living and continuing the fight.  However because Spring is approaching when a known flood will occur, and because of mounting threats from law enforcement, we need a return trip to help clean up camp and move some of the tents in the camp to higher ground to get everything possible out of the impending flood and to help with cleanup and relocation activities.  To aid Mike and his Environmentalist and Veteran friends in this effort, and for future pipeline fighting efforts, I have setup a fund and donation site in Elgin, Illinois for people to contribute money to cover costs of gasoline, firewood, propane, food, and other emergency supplies for the camps of pipeline fighters.  I am hoping that Illinois can join together and contribute to this extremely important cause.  Mike and additional Veterans and possibly Environmentalists as well from the area will also be travelling up there soon.  On their way there, they will stop in Elgin and pick up all accumulated supplies and money from me to bring to Standing Rock and help directly with this cause and those from Illinois who are helping.  This fund will continue for as long as the fight at Standing Rock continues and also for other pipeline fights that may come up in the future.  All of the funds contributed will go directly towards fighting anachronistic oil pipelines.

The powers that be must be made aware that we are serious about protecting the environment, our water supply, and the transition away from fossil fuels.  Until the powers that be who control the media and the laws seriously takes this on, we will be faced with indifferent, irresponsible capitalists who will continue to destroy our future for the sake of their short-term lifestyle, and the people will never be able to pull themselves out of fossil fuel dependence, and the very water that we depend on to live will become a scarcity and our lives will be ruined forever.  We must stop this from happening by standing with our Indigenous, Environmental, and Veteran brothers and sisters.  That is why I am asking you to contribute to our fund, when you can.  If you cannot contribute on-line, then please contact me (Paul Berland) to arrange for an in-person pick-up or drop-off of donations.
