Elfie's Tummy Surgery

Donation protected
Many of you know our Elfie. She's sweet and snuggly and wants nothing more from life than loves from her friends and family. You have seen her at camping events and your kiddos give her love at the gym when she comes to watch practice. She's a favorite no matter where we are and we love her so much.

She's always been a trim little pup, so when I noticed a few weeks ago that she was looking a little skinnier than usual I took notice. With birthdays and holidays I kept an eye on things but didn't worry too much. Then she started getting sick at night - only at night which I thought was weird - and after a quick look online decided that it could be that she was hungry. So I decided to increase her food a little bit. She happily ate her increased food for about a day and a half, but Monday night she threw up again. She ate her breakfast Tuesday morning and that was it. When she skipped her dinner Tuesday night and breakfast Wednesday morning I was really starting to worry. I went out and bought her some treats thinking if I could whet her appetite she would be willing to eat some "real" food. She ate a few treats but that was it. By Wednesday night I was really concerned. She was SO skinny and she hadn't really eaten for almost two days. I tried yogurt, which she happily ate and was looking for more, but 15 minutes later she got sick again.  At least she was drinking water (and peeing) still.  Then I noticed a large, hard, lump in her groin area and I realized something was really wrong.

She snuggled with us Wednesday night and Thursday morning I took her in to the vet. They took an x-ray but it was inconclusive. They gave her barium to try to get a better look, but it was moving very slowly. We took her home Thursday night so she could sleep at home with her family and took her back in to the vet Friday morning. The barium still hadn't moved very far so the thought is that there is an obstruction - possibly a hernia - and she needs exploritory abdomen surgery to confirm and repair the obstruction and hernia. This may involve removing part of her intestine.

Surgery isn't cheap. The $3500 I am looking to raise will cover the cost of surgery and post-op meds like antibiotics and pain medication.

The good news is that her heart, lungs and other organs are doing well. She doesn't seem to be in pain and she's still alert and snuggly - if a bit tired since she hasn't eaten anything in a few days. These all point to her having a full and healthy recovery if we can do the surgery - though as with any surgery there are possible complications.

Elfie means everything to Belle and I. She's family. We love her so much. If you can help - even just a little - we would be so grateful. I promise hugs from all three of us just as soon as Elfie is better.
