Einstein Academy has a total of nine classrooms with students in grades 4-8. Our amazing, dedicated teachers have not been able to incorporate technology in a comprehensive manner, due to the lack of appropriate hardware, network and fast internet access.
This summer, EA became a registered Computers in Learning recipient, meaning the school can receive surplus computer equipment from the federal government. As a non-profit, the school also has access to other low-cost options for hardware.
However, the school needs assistance in designing and implementing an effective technology plan. EA envisions a computer workstation in each classroom, with computers outfitted with appropriate software to provide security and web filtering. Teachers are very interested in exploring the use of assistive technology to help our students learn. It would be helpful, for example, if Read Aloud technology was available to assist struggling readers.
Some of the current curricula also have more advanced online components that thus far have not been utilized. For example, the students’ Math-U-See curriculum has an online portal that could allow more advanced students to work independently.
Finally, teachers and administrators need to have access to a networked computer system to work more efficiently. They need to be able to leverage online systems for planning, document sharing and student management.
