Florence Housing Relief

Donation protected
In the wake of Hurricane Florence several individuals in Wilmington, NC lost their homes due to destruction, eviction, and renovation.  A Wilmington resident myself, I evacuated to Durham, NC and once roads opened returned to the city to find many of friends and citizens without homes. One neighborhood alone lost 507 units and evicted all residents and families due to damage and revealed asbestos. Other homes were crushed by fallen trees and submerged in water.

My name is Devon Scott and as a non-profit volunteer, board member of our Economic Development Council, and advocate for social well-being I have always been involved in supporting my community. To assist groups in connecting those who were displaced to new residences, I built a website  to match searchers to those with vacancies. It took me two days to build a site and create an algorithm that matched home owners to displaced citizens, but there's more that can be done to increase outreach, connect to more volunteers, and protect user privacy.

I'm running this GoFundMe to help cover the hosting, bandwidth, security, and management costs for this system. If I receive more than the goal, that money will be donated to help compensate the rental and moving costs for individuals affected by the storm. Thank you for reading this and for your time.
