Medical Expenses for Bright 19-year-old in Need of Heart Transplant

Hello friends and family.  We are humbly seeking financial support for young Kayla Lewis,  a vibrant 19-year-old Georgia State University Sophomore in need of a Heart transplant.  Kayla discovered earlier this year that she had heart issues.  After numerous doctor appointments, Kayla had a defibrillator inserted in her heart.  During the procedure, the doctors learned that Kayla’s heart was in worse condition than they’d thought.  While attempting to ensure the defibrillator would work, Kayla flat lined.  All praises to God, He used the doctors at St. Joseph’s Hospital to stabilize Kayla and she spent a few days in ICU.  Kayla returned home on September 15th in great spirits and flashing those dimples as she smiled, but still in dire need of a heart transplant.

The next step for Kayla is to have a pump placed in her heart until she is able to have the heart transplant.  With the pump inserted, Kayla will need loved ones around her 24 hours a day.  Because of the care she’ll require and with looming medical bills of three major surgeries, medicine, and every day expenses, Kayla is in need of all our help.

Kayla is a Girl Scouts Bronze, Silver, and Gold Award recipient.  Prior to graduating from M.E. Stilwell School of the Arts, she received a Gold Award Scholarship for her Gold Award entitled “Unspoken Words of the Bully and Bully Victim.”  Her Gold Award focused on putting a STOP to bullying.  Kayla has been an honor roll student since kindergarten and has always been active in church ministry (to include singing in the choir and serving as an Usher at Friendship Community Church), school, and Girl Scouts.  In high school, Kayla was involved in several clubs including the National Honor Society, the National Beta Club, and the International Thespian Society.  Kayla was most passionate about Girl Scouts though because she gained the opportunity to work in and give back to her community.  As a Girl Scout she tutored elementary age students, participated with Hosea Helps (formerly Hosea Feed the Hungry), packaged medical supplies for Military service members stationed overseas,  and so much more.  Even in inspite of her own needs medically, Kayla currently helps other students by serving on the Trio Student Support Services Team, Quiet Storm Steppers (QSS), and will serve as a mentor at Georgia State University.  The family and friends of Ken, Janice, and their daughter Kayla are asking that you join us in supporting this family during this critical time.  Kayla has an awesome future ahead of her and we need your prayers, support, and well wishes to aid her in this journey.

We appreciate anything you can do to assist, be it donating funds, helping with meals, or providing assistance to Kayla’s parents when needed.  To donate funds to help with Kayla’s medical expenses, please click the Donate button on this page.

May God Bless you in advance for your love and support.  Thank you for being a part of Kayla’s village.  We know God has her under His wings!
