My name is Parker Reid and I am a 15 year old Canadian Bobsleigh Pilot from the lower mainland of  British Columbia.  I regularly train at the Whistler Sliding Centre and am on the Canadian  Monobob Team trying to qualify to participate in the 2016 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Lillehammer, Norway, in February, 2016.  Monobob is a one man bobsled and this is a new discipline/sport that is being introduced at YOG next year.   Because this is a new sport, there is no funding available, leaving athletes and their families to pay all costs associated with travel, training, coaching and competition.  I have just competed in the first 2 of 7 races in the Omega Monobob YOG Qualification race series and I finished 6th in both races (that's a really good result).  The next step in my journey is to travel to Innsbruck, Austria at the end of this month (November, 2015) to train and compete in the next series of races - after that training and racing continues in Norway in December and then St. Moriz, Switzerland in January, 2016.  I  am hoping to raise as much money as possible through donations to help my parents pay all the costs associated with me realizing my goal - to wear the Maple Leaf representing Canada at YOG.  This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I am going to do everything in my power to make the most of it and to  make my family, coaches and friends proud.  I will be extremely greatful for all support - big or small

I did it! I'm going to represent Canada in Monobob at the Youth Olympic Games in Norway.

Race 7 in Switzerland was awesome. The St. Moritz track is super cool. There was one small straight section of the track were the coach actually said "there is nothing to do here but sit back, relax and enjoy the view of the Alps!"

The cost of all of this travel and competition has been HUGE - I owe an enormous THANK YOU to my parents, for paying virtually all the bills so far for me to work toward achieving this dream. I have had many friends and family donate to my "gofundme" campaign so far, and I thank you all again - your support means a lot to me. For anyone who has not already done so - please consider donating to help me fund the cost of chasing my ultimate dream - standing on the podium representing Canada.

I travel on Feb. 8 to Norway - Opening Ceremony is on the 12th - I start training on Day 5 and race on Feb 20th.

I have now completed 6 of the 7 qualifying races for YOG and am back home for Christmas. I leave to Switzerland on January 2nd to compete at St Moritz in the 7th and final race before the Canadian YOG team is named in mid January. This training/race will be awesome - St Moritz is the oldest Bobsleigh track in the world - this will be excellent experience.

Thank you to everyone who has helped me financially and for all the good wishes and support to date. I will be very grateful for any and all further donations to help me fund the cost of chasing my dream.

Happy New year to everyone - wish me luck.

My instructor told me once, "A good pilot is the perfect blend of discipline and aggressiveness". From one pilot to another, looks to me you possess both! Best wishes!
