The ACT Club

Donation protected
As some may know, last year Mr. Ochoa and I started a student activism club at Crittenden called ACT (Action Crittenden Takes).  Over the course of the year, we spent countless hours fundraising, volunteering, raising awareness, and building school community.  We were able to donate over $2,500 to Free the Children to help build a school in Sierra Leone, we donated over 1,200 cans of food to the Second Harvest Food Bank of San Jose, we were able to raise awareness about school issues such as bullying, and create action plans for how we want to build a better school, community and world.

With the success of our club, our membership has quadrupled in it's second year, going from a meager 40 members last year to nearly 160 members this year (nearly a 4th of our school).  We are overwhelmed with the support and enthusiasm of the students who all believe that doing something for someone other than themselves is a worthwhile cause.

That being said, many of our students live under conditions where they, themselves, need help from the community.  Last year we were able to provide each student with a club tee shirt whether they were able to afford the $15 donation or not.  Over 100 of our members expressed that they either couldn't afford any donation or would need help purchasing their club tee.

So now we are reaching out to the community to help a club that's sole purpose is to help others.  We need help so that we can continue to provide opportunities for these young champions of change!
