EEE Mosquito Virus Assistance in Kalamazoo, MI
Donation protected
Hey y’all. I’m sure a lot of us on the west side of the mitten have been informed about the EEE virus and told to avoid areas with mosquito present. So. Why is this hitting me so hard right now? As a Social Worker, I’m worried about my Kalamazoo community.
I’m worried for the students within multiple KPS schools, that I’ve built relationships with. Worried for the students that walk home from Spring Valley, past the wetlands. Worried about my kids on the north side, whose homes aren’t adequate for keeping these deadly mosquito outside. I’m worried for my homeless neighbors who aren’t as privileged as I; who don’t have the resources to get this information and purchase bug spray. I’m even nervous to walk my dog at night now because I know she wouldn’t stand a chance against a disease that kills humans.
I’m worried for the counties west of Kalamazoo, in Van Buren County especially. Those farmlands and fields have people managing them. Are these small towns informed and protecting themselves? Not sure. I received this information through a text from my school, so is it as known as it is in Kalamazoo?
So these are my thoughts right now. Raising money to purchase bug spray for the vulnerable populations in my community. I will be donating the bug spray to the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission, and passing it out in downtown Kalamazoo myself.
Thank you!
